The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement to welcome the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak:

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I extend my congratulations to the United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.

“Canada’s partnership with the United Kingdom, one of the strongest relationships between any two countries in the world, is defined by our rich shared history, our close friendship, and an unwavering commitment to human rights, democracy, and the rules-based international order. This includes our close partnership through the United Nations, international financial institutions, and other multilateral organizations. We are the only two countries to be members of the Commonwealth, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, G7, and G20.

“I look forward to working with Prime Minister Sunak to strengthen this relationship as we continue to address ongoing global concerns, including Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine, economic uncertainty, and climate change. As people around the world gather with family and friends to light diyas, decorate homes, offer prayers, or exchange gifts and food, we are reminded to look to the year ahead with optimism and hope.

“In Canada, Diwali is an occasion for us to recognize the contributions of Canadians of South Asian descent, including Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, and Sikh communities, to our country’s fabric. Diwali also invites us to celebrate the diversity that makes Canada strong.

Η νέα έκθεση του Ηλία Παπανικολάου είναι μία σειρά ζωγραφικών έργων φτιαγμένων με χρωστικές σε καμβά. Ο Παπανικολάου με τα έργα αυτής της σειράς σε πάει στην καρδιά της καθημερινής παράνοιας στην πόλη. Τρανταχτές συνθέσεις, ζωηρά χρώματα, επιδημίες, πόλεμοι, οικονομικές καταστροφές, κλιματική αλλαγή, απάθεια, άνθρωποι ως πλανόδιοι κλόουν, fashion plates που περπατούν, πλήθη μεσοαστών και μικροαστών, σέξυ γυναίκες και στερεότυπα αντρών. Κάθε εικόνα είναι αξέχαστα ισχυρή. Και κάθε σχέδιο είναι εκπληκτικά άπταιστο περιγράφοντας την μορφή ενός παγωμένου ανθρώπου μερικές φορές σκιά του εαυτού του που όπως λέει ο ίδιος ο καλλιτέχνης, τρέχει να ακολουθήσει κάτι το οποίο δεν έχει προλάβει να εξηγήσει.

Οι  AKROVATES είναι ίσως μία αναδημιουργία ενός κόσμου από θραύσματα του Μεταμοντερνισμού, γεμάτο ψευδαισθήσεις  και αντιφάσεις. Ο κόσμος τους σχοινοβατεί επάνω σε μια ρευστή και πολυδαίδαλη πραγματικότητα. Αυτό που είναι εξαιρετικό ωστόσο είναι ότι αν και αυτοί οι άνθρωποι μπορεί να παρατηρηθούν άμεσα, δεν προέρχονται άμεσα από τη ζωή. Έχουν περάσει από τη συμπαθητική φαντασία του καλλιτέχνη και έχουν γίνει κατά κάποιον τρόπο μνημεία του εαυτού τους. Οι πίνακες του Παπανικολάου περιγράφουν τις αντιφάσεις μιας μετά-νεωτερικότητας όπου το ζήτημα της αναδημιουργίας ενός κόσμου είναι πάντα παρόν. From Ally to Ally, their contents differ in small, interesting ways. Join a Norwegian soldier and her French counterpart as they exchange rations during Exercise Brilliant Jump 22, held in Rena, Norway in March 2022. Brilliant Jump tested the NATO Response Force’s (NRF’s) ability to quickly deploy a combat-ready spearhead battalion on short notice. France leads the NRF in 2022, and their infantry brought plenty of hearty mountain rations to see them through the long, cold days. Η οπτική θέασης των πραγμάτων και η σχέση της με την αλήθεια ήταν και παραμένει σημαίνουσα και σημαντική για την στρέβλωση ή για την ορθή κατανόηση της πραγματικότητας και της σχέσης μας με αυτήν. Όταν η φιλοσοφία καταλήγει σε στρατευμένη  ταξική ιδεολογία είναι επόμενο η στρέβλωση της πραγματικότητας να οδηγεί σε παρανοήσεις και παρενέργειες που μαζί με τα απόνερα πετάμε και το παιδί.  Αυτή η συνθήκη ισχύει για όλους μας ακόμη και για τον Στέλιο Ράμφο που χρόνια τώρα μας κατηχεί με τον ιδεαλισμό του Πλάτωνα και με την νέο-ορθοδοξία του που παραμένει μετέωρη στον χωροχρόνο και γι’ αυτό απολογητική.

Ο Ράμφος ολοκληρώνει και με το καινούργιο βιβλίο του, ‘Διακόσια χρόνια γέννα 1821-2021’[1]   όπως το παρουσιάζει στην τελευταία συνέντευξή του με τίτλο ‘Διακόσια χρόνια εκκρεμότητας’[2]  ένα δικό του  σύμπαν  με  ακαθόριστο κέντρο και θολή πηγή φωτός τον μεταφυσικό πλατωνισμό και το δόγμα της  ‘χριστιανικής ορθοδοξίας’. Ο πλατωνισμός με την ‘θεωρία των ιδεών’ και με τα ‘περί αθάνατης ψυχής’ γυρίζει την πλάτη του στην Φύση  και στην ανθρώπινη κοινωνία και αφού απο-ιστορικοποιεί και από-κοινωνικοποιεί τον άνθρωπο, ψάχνει να βρει το νόημα αυτής της λεηλατημένης  ύπαρξής  με κριτήριο την ‘ηθική’, λες και τόσο ο άνθρωπος όσο και η ‘ηθική’  του είναι υπεριστορικές υπάρξεις και κατηγορίες. Σε αυτό το ραμφικό  σύμπαν η Ελλάδα παρουσιάζεται ως  ένας  φωτεινός κομήτης που εμφανίστηκε τάχα απροειδοποίητα στην αρχαιότητα και  στη συνέχεια εξαφανίστηκε για να μεταμορφωθεί σε Βυζάντιο, στο ανατολικό μισοσκότεινο της Pax Romana,   για να επανεμφανιστεί ξαφνικά από το πουθενά στη μορφή της σύγχρονης Ελλάδας, υποτίθεται υπό συνθήκες  απόλυτου κενού, απροσδιοριστίας και προφανώς ‘θείας πρόνοιας’, δηλαδή εκτός πραγματικού φυσικού, ιστορικού και κοινωνικού συστήματος  δυνάμεων που δρουν στον χωροχρόνο και διαμορφώνουν  εθνοθανάτους και ενδογενέσεις, δηλαδή την ιστορία της Ευρώπης και γενικά της ανθρωπότητας.

Disinformation is a Regional Economic Problem

Fake news affects more than holiday dinner discussion. It can hamper regional economic goals.

In November 2020, the APEC Policy Support Unit published a report which served as a recap of what would turn out to be the first year of the still ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Assessing the then-raging pandemic, a section of that installment of the APEC Regional Trends Analysis was headlined, “new virus, old challenges.” That is, the strain of coronavirus may be novel, but it has exposed and amplified old issues that have been, while adequately predicted, inadequately addressed by policymakers up and until they converged into the perfect storm that was the last three years.

● Council of the EU   25/10/2022 12:38 | Press release | ‘Fit for 55’: Council agrees on stricter rules for energy performance of buildings   The Council today reached an agreement (general approach) on a proposal to revise the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. The main objectives of the revision are that all new buildings should be zero-emission buildings by 2030, and that existing buildings should be transformed into zero-emission buildings by 2050. "The building sector is crucial for achieving the EU’s energy and climate objectives for 2030 and 2050. But more than that, the agreement reached today will help citizens make substantial energy savings. Better and more energy efficient buildings will improve citizens' quality of life while bringing down their energy bills and alleviating energy poverty." Jozef Síkela, Czech minister of industry and trade As regards new buildings, the Council agreed that: from 2028 new buildings owned by public bodies would be zero-emission buildings from 2030 all new buildings would be zero-emission buildings Exceptions will be possible for some buildings, including historical buildings, places of worship and buildings used for defense purposes. For existing buildings, member states agreed to introduce minimum energy performance standards that would correspond to the maximum amount of primary energy that buildings can use per m2 annually. The purpose is to trigger renovations and lead to a gradual phase-out of the worst-performing buildings and a continuous improvement of the national building stock.

● Council of the EU   25/10/2022 14:17 | Press release | Burundi: Declaration by the High Representative on behalf of the European Union   The European Union (EU) has reviewed its restrictive measures in view of the situation in Burundi and has decided to renew the regime of restrictive measures as established by Council Decision (CFSP) 2015/1763 for one year, and to delist three individuals. The EU welcomes the intensified engagement with Burundi over the past two years on human rights, good governance and rule of law, and recalls the commitments by the Government of Burundi in those areas, as foreseen under the frame of the EU-Burundi political dialogue. The EU reiterates its readiness to actively support the efforts of Burundian authorities. However, the EU is seriously concerned that major challenges remain unaddressed and unresolved, as referred to by the UN Human Rights Council’s resolution adopted on 7 October 2022. The EU urges Burundi to fully cooperate with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the human rights treaty bodies and the UN Special Rapporteur as established by the UN Human Rights Council Resolution A/HRC/RES/48/16 of 13 October 2021. The EU calls on the Burundian government to translate its commitments into effective and concrete actions to improve the human rights and rule of law situation in the country, including in terms of political and civil rights, protecting human rights defenders, releasing political prisoners, facilitating the return and reintegration of refugees and ensuring the independence of the judiciary as well as the accountability for human rights abuses and violations by state and non-state actors, and fight against corruption. The EU recalls its ambition to maintain a substantive political dialogue as an integral element of its engagement with Burundi. The political dialogue, including on economic and human rights challenges, is key in fostering mutual understanding and constructive cooperation, paving the way for further progress in the EU-Burundi relations. The EU keeps developments in Burundi under constant review and can decide to modify its regime of restrictive measures or to amend the list of persons, entities and bodies subject to restrictive measures based on developments on the ground.
