Αποτελέσματα έρευνας του Ελληνο-Αμερικανικού Εμπορικού Επιμελητηρίου για τις επιπτώσεις του COVID-19 στην καθημερινότητα και την εργασία    Αθήνα 19.05.2020. Η εμφάνιση και η ταχύτατη εξάπλωση του COVID-19 επέφερε ριζικές αλλαγές στον τρόπο ζωής μας προκειμένου να διαφυλαχτεί η υγεία και να περιοριστεί η διασπορά του ιού. Αυτό είχε ως αποτέλεσμα, εκατομμύρια άνθρωποι σε όλο τον πλανήτη να προσαρμοστούν άμεσα σε νέες συνήθειες καθημερινότητας αλλά και εργασίας. Το Ελληνο-Αμερικανικό Εμπορικό Επιμελητήριο συνεχίζοντας να παρακολουθεί στενά όλες τις εξελίξεις και με σκοπό πάντα τη διεξαγωγή χρήσιμων συμπερασμάτων για τις αλλαγές που θα διαμορφώσουν την επόμενη μέρα, σε συνεργασία με την Επιτροπή Women in Business (WIB) προχώρησε στη διεξαγωγή έρευνας για τις επιπτώσεις του COVID-19 στην καθημερινότητα αλλά και την εργασία.  Η έρευνα πραγματοποιήθηκε το διάστημα 23/4/2020 έως 01/5/2020 και συγκέντρωσε 546 συμμετέχοντες εκ των οποίων το 68% ήταν γυναίκες και το 32% άνδρες. Σύμφωνα λοιπόν με τα αποτελέσματα της έρευνας, αν και οι συνέπειες της πανδημίας του COVID-19 θα πλήξουν όλους τους ανθρώπους περισσότερο αντιμέτωπες με την ανεργία θεωρείται ότι θα βρεθούν οι γυναίκες. Επίσης αν και το lockdown και η τηλε-εργασία επιβαρύνει τον προσωπικό χρόνο και των δύο φύλων, το μεγαλύτερο ποσοστό των συμμετεχόντων υποστηρίζει ότι επιβαρύνεται περισσότερο ο προσωπικός χρόνος των γυναικών οι οποίες αυτό το διάστημα συνδέονται ακόμα πιο έντονα με τον παραδοσιακό τους ρόλο της φροντίδας του σπιτιού. Ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον παρουσιάζουν τα αποτελέσματα της έρευνας για κατά πόσο η εμφάνιση του COVID-19 επηρέασε τις καθημερινές συνήθειες των δύο φύλλων στις υποχρεώσεις του σπιτιού, τη φροντίδα παιδιών και ηλικιωμένων αλλά και για το αν και σε τι βαθμό πόσο πιστεύουν ότι θα επηρεαστούν οι προοπτικές απασχόλησης τους στο μέλλον. AHI Founder Eugene T. Rossides Mourned

For Immediate Release | May 18, 2020 AHI Founder Eugene T. Rossides Mourned Supreme President George G. Horiates has issued the following statement on the sad news of the passing of Eugene T. Rossides, founder of the American Hellenic Institute, who died May 16, 2020. He was 92.   “The members of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association deeply mourn the passing of AHEPA Life Member Eugene T. Rossides, a champion of the rule of law, an upstanding public servant, and standout athlete.   Brother Rossides will be missed tremendously by the many lives he touched and inspired worldwide through a lifetime of unwavering service and extraordinary leadership in the pursuit of excellence and justice. A proud American and passionate Hellene, Brother Rossides' legacy will live on through the American Hellenic Institute and the AHI-affiliated organizations he founded and led in support of the rule of law, Hellenism, and the Cyprus cause; and furthermore, for spearheading the effort that led to a U.S. arms embargo on Turkey following Turkey’s illegal invasion of the Republic of Cyprus in 1974.   We are immensely proud to have called Eugene Rossides a Brother Ahepan since 1954. Throughout his life, he exemplified and fulfilled the mission of AHEPA to the utmost. A man of integrity, Brother Rossides will be remembered fondly as a pillar of the community and with reverence. "Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with the Rossides family. May his memory be eternal.” About Brother Rossides’ AHEPA Honors Brother Eugene T. Rossides, a life member of Delphi Chapter 25, Manhattan, N.Y., received the 2000 AHEPA-Archbishop Iakovos Humanitarian Award, which honors those who dedicate themselves to the betterment of human and civil rights and religious freedoms for people suffering under tyranny and oppression.   In 1989, he received induction into the AHEPA Hellenic Athletic Hall of Fame for starring at Columbia University as a quarterback in the 1940s prior to being drafted by the New York Giants. He also became the first recipient of the AHEPA-Stamos Family Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014 for achievements and contributions to society during his post-athletic career. # # #

PRESS RELEASE The CCBE sounds the alarm bell for justice in Europe 20/05/2020

The CCBE calls to overcome urgently the current paralysis of judicial systems

During the confinement period, numerous cases and proceedings have been cancelled and postponed to the detriment of access to justice and respect of human rights. The fundamental right of any person to due process within a reasonable time has been interrupted. In a statement published today, the CCBE urges the European institutions and all Member States: To facilitate the complete reactivation of justice systems in Europe, while promoting health and safety measures. Justice must be recognised as an immutable duty for member states. The Judiciary must be reactivated immediately in phase I of every deconfinement strategy, to the greatest extent possible, to allow citizens and entities regain full access to Justice and to legal certainty. To invest in justice and legal aid urgently. Access to Justice must be made accessible for all parties in a safe and healthy manner including access of defence lawyers to prisons. Due to the cancellation and postponement of cases, the judiciary will face a significant backlog, which further negatively affects legal certainty and societal peace. Sufficient court staff and personnel must be provided, and investment should be made in IT development in court case management. To provide support to lawyers to ensure the defence of fundamental Rights and Freedoms and to promote access to justice in order to guarantee citizens’ rights. Specific financial support must be provided as well as tax relief measures for lawyers and law firms. In particular, sole practitioners and small and medium sized law firms, who often are the first point of contact with Justice and rights defence, have suffered dramatically from the confinement and coronavirus crisis, due to the lack of new cases and late or non-payment of invoices by clients, themselves adversely economically impacted.. While statistical data is not yet available initial soundings taken suggest that about 25% of European lawyers are significantly adversely affected. “Justice must be accessible to all at any time. Any person, including the most vulnerable, must have access to legal advice and be able to seek justice within reasonable time if needed. Pendant la période de confinement, de nombreuses affaires et procédures ont été annulées et reportées au détriment de l'accès à la justice et du respect des droits humains. Le droit fondamental de toute personne à un procès équitable dans un délai raisonnable est interrompu. Dans sa déclaration publiée aujourd’hui, le CCBE exhorte les institutions européennes et les États membres à : faciliter la réactivation complète des systèmes judiciaires en Europe, tout en favorisant les mesures de santé et de sécurité. La justice doit être reconnue en tant que devoir immuable des États membres. Le pouvoir judiciaire doit être réactivé immédiatement dans la phase I de chaque stratégie de déconfinement, dans la plus large mesure possible, afin de permettre aux citoyens et aux entités de retrouver un accès complet à la justice et à la sécurité juridique. investir d'urgence dans la justice et l'aide juridique. L’accès à la justice doit être accessible à toutes les parties de manière sûre et saine, notamment avec l’accès des avocats de la défense aux prisons. Les avocats exerçant seuls et les cabinets d'avocats de petite et moyenne taille, qui sont souvent le premier point de contact avec la justice et la défense des droits, ont beaucoup souffert du confinement et de la crise de coronavirus en raison du manque de nouvelles affaires et du retard ou du non-paiement des factures par les clients, eux-mêmes affectés économiquement. Malgré l’absence de statistiques pour le moment, les premiers sondages indiquent qu’environ 25 % des avocats en Europe sont fortement affectés par cette situation. « La justice doit être accessible à tous à tout moment. Toute personne, y compris les plus vulnérables, doit avoir accès à des conseils juridiques et doit pouvoir demander justice dans un délai raisonnable en cas de besoin. Cette crise sanitaire ne peut pas se faire au détriment des droits fondamentaux des citoyens », déclare Ranko Pelicarić, le président du CCBE.
