The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today welcomed the appointment of Karen Hogan as Canada’s new Auditor General. This appointment is effective June 8, 2020.
The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to Sylvain Ricard, who has been serving as Interim Auditor General since March 2019, for his contributions to the Office of the Auditor General of Canada.
The Office of the Auditor General of Canada provides Parliament with impartial, fact-based information, and expert advice on government programs and activities, gathered through audits. The Auditor General’s responsibilities include auditing operations of the federal and territorial governments, and providing Parliament and the legislative assemblies of the territories with independent information, assurance, and advice regarding the stewardship of public funds.
Fully bilingual, Ms. Hogan was chosen as the nominee for this position through the government’s open, transparent, and merit-based appointment process. She is the second woman of the 15 permanent Auditors General who have been appointed since 1867.

Le premier ministre Justin Trudeau a salué aujourd'hui la nomination de Karen Hogan au poste de vérificatrice générale du Canada. Cette nomination entrera en vigueur le 8 juin 2020.
Le premier ministre a également remercié Sylvain Ricard, qui occupait le poste de vérificateur général par intérim depuis mars 2019, pour sa contribution au Bureau du vérificateur général du Canada.
Le Bureau du vérificateur général du Canada aide le Parlement en lui fournissant des renseignements impartiaux et fondés sur les faits ainsi que des conseils d'experts sur les programmes et les activités du gouvernement. Ces conseils sont recueillis dans le cadre de vérifications. Les responsabilités du vérificateur général consistent notamment à auditer les opérations du gouvernement fédéral et des gouvernements territoriaux. De plus, elles consistent à fournir au Parlement et aux assemblées législatives de l’information, des avis et une certitude concernant la gestion des fonds publics.
Mme Hogan est parfaitement bilingue, et sa nomination a été proposée conformément au processus de nomination ouvert, transparent et fondé sur le mérite établi par le gouvernement. Elle est la deuxième femme à obtenir le poste de vérificateur général parmi les 15 personnes ayant occupé ces fonctions à titre permanent depuis 1867.
