Brazil, a BRICS emerging economy, is the world’s sixth-largest greenhouse gas (GHG) emitter. Change in land use and forests (including deforestation and wildfires) is the main source of GHGs in Brazil, followed closely by agricultural production. Following COP 29, Brazil updated its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), committing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 48 percent by 2025 and 53 percent by 2030, compared to 2005 emissions. Given the importance of agriculture, Brazil has adopted and implemented regulations to make these activities more sustainable, with the main goals of mitigating GHGs and adapting to climate change. The Low-Carbon Agriculture (ABC) Plan, the Safra Plan, and the National Program for the Conversion of Degraded Pastures into Production Systems (PNCPC) are among the most significant recent initiatives. This report highlights Brazil’s programs to mitigate carbon emissions in the agricultural sector and promote sustainable practices.

Applications Open for APEC’s Healthy Women Research Prize

Applications for the 2024 APEC Healthy Women, Healthy Economies Research Prize, which calls for innovative research on the link between women’s health and economic participation, are now open.
The annual prize recognizes research that enables policymakers, business leaders and other stakeholders to shape policies that will further boost women’s full economic participation. It aims to encourage the creation of sex-disaggregated data and gender-based research within APEC member economies. The initiative was launched in 2019 and is supported by Merck.
Interested candidates may access the application form through this link. The application deadline is Friday, 17 May 2024.
“Women, compared to men, spend a greater portion of their lives in poor health, which restricts their ability to fully engage in domestic, community and economic activities,” said Chantelle Stratford PSM, Chair of APEC’s Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy.
Prime Minister concludes successful visit from Prime Minister of Greece
March 25, 2024 Ottawa, Ontario
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcomed the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Canada from March 24 to 25. The two leaders advanced co-operation in shared interests, including trade and investment, climate action, tourism, and creating good, middle-class jobs.
During the visit, the Prime Ministers agreed to strengthen bilateral co-operation in emergency management and public safety. Greece’s purchase of seven DHC-515 firefighting planes is an important step forward in joint efforts to tackle wildfires and an example of the robust partnership between Canada and Greece. The two leaders also recognized the importance of tourism and agreed to work together to develop a memorandum of understanding to create jobs and opportunity.
Prime Minister Trudeau announced a $10 million investment for the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal to build a new community centre in the heart of Chomedey, Laval. The complex will be a space for the public, including the Greek community, to celebrate culture, tradition, and heritage. It will include a theater, a sports complex, a library, offices, and other spaces to bring the community together and host commemorative events. With funding through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program, it will be a modern and net-zero community complex.
The leaders emphasized the common values and close ties that unite our people. They attended a service at Evangelismos Tis Theotokou Orthodox Church, participated in the Greek Independence Day Parade, and met with the Greek-Canadian community of Montréal.
As NATO Allies and steadfast partners, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing peace, stability and prosperity worldwide, including in Ukraine and the Middle East. They also recognized the impacts of climate change and committed to deepening partnership to address this global challenge.

NATO Foreign Ministers met in Brussels on Wednesday (3 April 2024) for the first of two days of meetings to mark NATO’s 75th anniversary and prepare for the Washington Summit in July. This was also the first meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers with Sweden participating as a full member.

The transport sector alone is responsible for a quarter of the EU's greenhouse gas emissions. Europe's objective, confirmed in the Climate Law and the Paris Agreements, is to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. That's why it's vital to redirect our mobility towards the most sustainable modes of transport.
This objective was at the heart of this informal meeting of European Transport Ministers organised by the Federal Minister of Mobility, who brought together his 26 European colleagues as part of the Belgian presidency of the Council of the European Union. At the end of the meeting devoted to active mobility, rail connections and the resilience of our transport infrastructures, the Belgian presidency presented a Brussels Declaration, setting out clear and ambitious guidelines for the next European legislature.
On 16 April from 09.30 to 13.00 CEST, the Civil Society Organisations' Group (Group III) of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will hold a conference entitled 'Building Together the EU We Want'.
The conference will bring together approximately 140 participants, including the Members of Group III and civil society organisations at the European and national levels. The discussions will centre around three topics:
The expectations of European citizens vis-à-vis the socio-economic and political challenges facing the EU;
The EU we want: a democratic and inclusive EU of social justice and protection;
The EU we want: a sustainable economy based on fair green and digital transitions and quality jobs.

Επί χρόνια, κυκλοφορούσε την έντυπη έκδοσή της σε ένα ικανότατο τιράζ (5000 καλαίσθητων φύλλων εβδομαδιαίως) και εντυπωσίαζε με την ποιότητα της εμφάνισης και το ουσιώδες, μαχητικό και έντιμο περιεχόμενο της.
Η δύναμη της Πένας της Εφημερίδας, η Ειλικρίνεια, οι Ερευνές της που έφερναν πάντα ουσιαστικό αποτέλεσμα ενημέρωσης, την έφεραν πολύ γρήγορα πρώτη στην προτίμηση των αναγνωστών και γρήγορα εξελίχθηκε σε Εφημερίδα Γνώμης και όχι μόνον για την Περιφέρεια στην οποία κυκλοφορούσε.

Η ΕΦΗΜΕΡΙΔΑ «ΠΟΛΙΤΙΚΗ», είναι ένα βήμα Ισονομίας και Ισοπολιτείας, έννοιες απόλυτα επιθυμητές, ιδιαιτέρως στις ημέρες μας. Απολαμβάνει όμως Διεθνούς σεβασμού αφού φιλοξενεί ενημέρωση από αρκετά ξένα Κράτη πράγμα που της περιποιεί βεβαίως, μέγιστη τιμή.
Η ΕΦΗΜΕΡΙΔΑ «ΠΟΛΙΤΙΚΗ» διαγράφει απο την γέννησή της μια αξιοζήλευτη πορεία και απέκτησε εξ αιτίας αυτού,ΜΕΓΙΣΤΗ αναγνωσιμότητα.
Η Εφημερίδα «ΠΟΛΙΤΙΚΗ» κέρδισε την αποδοχή και τον σεβασμό που της ανήκει, με «εξετάσεις» εικοσι έξι ολόκληρων ετών, με συνεχείς αιματηρούς αγώνες κατά της τοπικής διαπλοκής, με αγώνα επιβίωσης σε πολύ δύσκολους καιρούς, με Εντιμότητα, αίσθηση Καθήκοντος και Ευθύνης.
