Please click here to read more >> The following GAIN reports were released on June 12, 2026. _______FAS Accra, Abidjan (Post) recruited and led a 16-strong buyers’ delegation (7 from Ghana and 9 from Côte d’Ivoire and Togo) to Barcelona’s (Spain) Seafood Expo Global 2026 trade show (April 21-23, 2026); a USDA/FAS endorsed and sponsored trade show. Post coordinated and facilitated for its Coastal West African Region (CWAR) buyers’ delegation matchmaking meetings with the USA Pavilion Exhibitors. Our return-on-investment (ROI) in this trade show resulted in on-the-spot deals of $248,000 (Ghanaian purchases alone). Post is chalking this one up as commercial diplomacy win for American farmers of the sea. Thanks to Post’s trade facilitation efforts, our CWAR buying team delegates report they target to book an additional $4.8 million in future U.S.-origin seafood and processed seafood products over the next 6-to-12 months. Our CWAR delegates really like our frozen U.S.-origin hake, yellow croaker, shrimp, skate, and American processed seafood products in general. This report is a reminder that effective February 14, 2025, U.S. establishments that slaughter, process, store, or export raw meat and/or raw poultry products to Hong Kong must be registered on both the Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) Hong Kong Eligible Establishment List and the Hong Kong Centre for Food Safety (CFS) website prior to exporting. This report provides guidance on registering under both systems. In May and June 2026, the Government of Japan published a series of annual White Papers through the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) covering the food, agriculture, and fisheries sectors. These White Papers provide a comprehensive overview of the challenges facing Japan’s food, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors and outline the roadmap for future policies. This report provides an update on the discussions regarding the regulation of cell-cultured foods in the Consumer Affairs Agency of Japan between December 2025 and March 2026. New Zealand fluid milk production for market year (MY) 2026 is forecast to reach a record 22.1 million metric tons (MMT). This forecast reflects favorable economic conditions for the dairy sector, including strong farm-gate returns supporting higher milk output in addition to continued investment in productivity improvements and infrastructure. MY 2025 milk production concluded at 21.93 MMT, reaching production levels not seen since MY 2018, when the national herd had an additional 315,000 cows in milk, reflecting strong sectorial productivity growth. Whole milk powder (WMP) continues to be the leading export category by volume. However, a notable production shift is underway with expanded capacity for cheese production, as well as specialty and functional products.
