November 28, 1947
On this day, Maria Farantouri was born in Athens. Known for her powerful voice and moving interpretations of Greek music, she became a cultural icon. Collaborating with Mikis Theodorakis, she blended art with activism, earning international acclaim and remaining a beloved figure in Greek music.
November 29, 1934
On this day, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark married Prince George, Duke of Kent. Fluent in five languages and known for her elegance and devotion, she became a beloved royal figure. Widowed young, she remained steadfastly dedicated to public service until her death in 1968.

December 1, 1913
On this day, the Greek flag was raised at the Firka Fortress in Chania, marking Crete’s union with Greece. Built in 1629 to guard the Venetian harbor, the fortress became the symbolic site where the Turkish flag was lowered and Greece’s blue-and-white flag rose permanently.
