AHEPA was cited as one of Bush's famous "Thousand Points of Light" in his 1988 acceptance speech for the Presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention in New Orleans? In 1991, AHEPA presented President Bush with the AHEPA Socrates Award.

IMF Will Remain Engaged in Greece, Lagarde Says

The International Monetary Fund will remain engaged in Greece in some form, which will most likely become clearer after a June 21 meeting of the Eurogroup of euro zone finance ministers, IMF chief Christine Lagarde said on Monday. Tsipras: 'Republic of North Macedonia' for universal use

Moria close to 7,500 mark as ministry vows transfers

A batch of new arrivals over the weekend pushed the population at the already overcrowded Moria refugee camp on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos close to the 7,500 mark, after it had managed to ease down to 6,872 late last week - meager respite at a facility built for a maximum of 3,000 people. read more
Cyprus starts building 'Europe's biggest casino resort '

A new casino resort in Cyprus that is expected to be Europe's biggest will be the centerpiece of the Mediterranean island's strategy to become a luxury tourism destination, the country's president said Friday. Nicos Anastasiades said the 550 million euro ($651 million) City of Dreams Mediterranean casino resort is the biggest investment project ever undertaken in Cyprus. He said that once operational in 2021, the resort will create around 6,500 jobs, attract an additional 300,000 visitors to Cyprus each year and pour some 700 million euros ($828.5 million) into the economy annually. read more

On this Day June 10, 1944: Haunting Images from the Nazi Massacre at Distomo

On June 10, 1944, one of the most brutal events in all of World War II took place in the tiny Greek village of Distomo, on the Greek mainland. According to survivor testimony, Nazi SS troops went door to door and massacred 218 Greek civilians.
