NEWS ITEM Members start knowledge building for second wave of fisheries subsidies negotiations WTO members on 23 November ramped up preparations for the second wave of fisheries subsidies negotiations by holding the first of two knowledge building workshops in line with recommendations made by members at their brainstorming retreat in October. Members heard presentations from domestic authorities responsible for implementing the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, as well as from experts of several international organizations. NEWS ITEM World Trade Congress on Gender programme is now available The World Trade Congress on Gender, to be held at the WTO on 5-7 December 2022 under the theme “Gender Equality for Sustainable Trade and Recovery”, will feature over 80 speakers and researchers in 15 sessions aimed at promoting innovative thinking and research on trade and gender. NEWS ITEM Members discuss role of trade in developing countries’ response to COVID-19 WTO members discussed how trade is helping developing countries and least-developed countries (LDCs) respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and build resilience to future crises at a meeting of the Committee on Trade and Development on 17 November. They also discussed initiatives aimed at advancing developing countries’ integration into the global trading system, including in electronic commerce. WTO members also reviewed regional trade agreements among developing countries and preferential trade arrangements at separate meetings of the Committee. News item   ⟶

APEC Announces Regional Dashboard to Track Progress and Promote Sustainable Immunization

APEC member economies announced a comprehensive dashboard to help measure their collective progress towards implementing and advancing sustainable life-course immunization programs. 

The APEC Regional Dashboard on Vaccination across the Life-Course builds on last year’s endorsed vaccine action plan which set strategies and policy targets for member economies to boost routine vaccination efforts, as well as enhance the resilience and sustainability of immunization programs in the region through 2030.

READOUT: Deputy Secretary Adeyemo Roundtable with Labor Leaders on the Inflation Reduction Act

LOS ANGELES, CA – U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo participated in a roundtable discussion with labor leaders yesterday to discuss Treasury’s implementation of the strong worker provisions included in the Inflation Reduction Act and ways to help ensure workers benefit from the gains created by the transition to a clean energy economy. The roundtable was hosted by the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council and included leaders from IBEW, Ironworkers, Laborers, Plumbers, Roofers and Waterproofers, and Boilermakers unions.

The roundtable is part of a series of discussions the Treasury Department has been hosting as it solicits input from the public to inform its work implementing the Inflation Reduction Act. Nearly three quarters of the bill’s $369 billion climate change investment – $270 billion – is delivered via tax incentives, putting Treasury at the forefront of this landmark law.

In the meeting with labor leaders, Deputy Secretary Adeyemo discussed how the Inflation Reduction Act will help ensure that workers benefit from the clean energy economy they’re helping build, including through apprenticeship rules that will help expand the union labor force and prevailing wage rules that will help ensure workers receive fair pay.

Επίκαιρη ερώτηση του Γ. Βλάχου για την προθεσμία κατάργησης της κατά παρέκκλιση χορήγησης οικοδομικής άδειας στα εκτός σχεδίου οικόπεδα κάτω των 4 στρεμμάτων

 

Ο Βουλευτής Ανατολικής Αττικής, Γεώργιος Βλάχος, κατέθεσε επίκαιρη ερώτηση στον Υπουργό Περιβάλλοντος και Ενέργειας, κ. Κώστα Σκρέκα, ζητώντας του να παραταθεί η προθεσμία κατάργησης της κατά παρέκκλιση χορήγηση άδειας στα γήπεδα εκτός σχεδίου κάτω των 4 στρεμμάτων και να συνδεθεί με την κατάρτιση και την εφαρμογή των Τοπικών Πολεοδομικών Σχεδίων.

Ο κ. Βλάχος επισημαίνει τη δέσμευση του Υπουργείου να προχωρήσει το Τοπικό Πολεοδομικό Σχέδιο στο διάστημα της δοθείσας παράτασης των δυο ετών, πράγμα το οποίο δεν έγινε πράξη. Λαμβάνοντας υπόψιν αυτό, καθώς και τον ορατό κίνδυνο απαξίωσης των περιουσιών των ιδιοκτητών, φέραμε στη Βουλή το θέμα προκειμένου να υπάρξει πλήρης ενημέρωση για τις επόμενες κινήσεις του Υπουργείου.

The CCBE decided to grant the CCBE Human Rights Award 2022 to both Ukrainian lawyer Nadia Volkova and the UNBA for their courage, determination and commitment to defending human rights and the rule of law in Ukraine. The CCBE President, James MacGuill SC, will present their awards during the CCBE Plenary Session on Friday 25 November 2022 in Brussels. With this award, the CCBE wishes to highlight the important role that the legal profession plays for Ukrainian citizens in defending their fundamental rights. It will also demonstrate the need to preserve the integrity of the administration of justice and the rule of law, especially in times of war. The purpose of the CCBE Human Rights Award is to highlight the work of one or more lawyers or lawyers’ organisations which have demonstrated outstanding commitment and sacrifice in upholding fundamental values. The award is granted to one or more lawyers or to a lawyers’ organisationwhich have brought honour to the legal profession by upholding the highest values of professional and personal conduct in the field of human rights. Le Conseil des barreaux européens (CCBE) décerne son Prix des droits humains à l’avocate ukrainienne Nadia Volkova et à l’UNBA pour leur courage, leur détermination et leur engagement à défendre les droits humains et l’état de droit en Ukraine. Le président du CCBE, James MacGuill, remettra les prix lors de la session plénière du CCBE le vendredi 25 novembre 2022 à Bruxelles. Avec ce prix, le CCBE souhaite mettre en lumière le rôle important que la profession d’avocat joue pour les citoyens ukrainiens dans la défense de leurs droits fondamentaux. Il démontrera également la nécessité de préserver l’intégrité de l’administration de la justice et l’état de droit, notamment en temps de guerre. L’objectif du Prix des droits humains du CCBE est de mettre à l’honneur le travail d’un ou de plusieurs avocats ou d’organisations d’avocats qui ont fait preuve d’un engagement et d’un sacrifice hors du commun pour préserver les valeurs fondamentales.
