Funding and sustainability go hand in hand in this time of uncertainty. The recent cuts to USAID have made it even clearer that collaboration is urgent to develop alternative solutions and rely less on external funding.
Our long-term partnership with the International Journalism Festival in Perugia enables us to organise a session focused on the future this year. Here, we will take part in two panels and in a networking event organised together with Bonn Institute and the Solutions Journalism Network.

Journalism for the new generations
Last week, six students from the School voor Journalistiek Utrecht visited our office in Maastricht to share their progress and achievements on a project they are developing as part of their studies.
We have discussed the importance of networking, accessible news formats, and financial support for aspiring journalists. As young professionals and passionate students, they have shared their perspectives, highlighting the need for community, opportunities, and a voice in the industry.
EJC recommended: Call open for European Health Journalism Award 2024/2025
For the Semmelweis-Richter Journalism Award, journalists based in Europe are invited to submit their stories on women’s health, pharmaceutical strategies and innovation.
These may include stories that help raise awareness, are about certain stigmatised diseases within society, cultivate open social discourse, and/or ultimately lead to improved treatment and understanding.
The award fund is €45,000. Deadline is set for 7 April.
