AHEPA Educational Foundation Announces 2024 Scholarship Winners |
|
Since 1922, The Order of AHEPA has provided scholarships to students of Greek or Greek-American descent in order to help further their education. Over the years, the number of scholarships we have been able to give has increased thanks to the generosity of individuals and families who have donated significantly to support the youth of our communities and enabled us to offer scholarships to undergraduate, graduate, medical, theological, law students and more! The Order of AHEPA Educational Foundation would like to acknowledge the generosity and offer thanks to those who have gone above and beyond to fund the following scholarships. |

AHEPA Senior Living Breaks Ground in South Bend |
AHEPA Supreme Vice President Chris Kaitson represented Supreme President Savas C. Tsivicos on Thursday, October 10 at the ground breaking ceremony for AHEPA 100 Phase II Apartments in South Bend, Indiana. The event, also attended by Supreme Treasurer Themistocles Frangos and Board of Trustees member Louis G. Atsaves.
AHEPA 100 II Apartments will be a three-story, 72-unit HUD-assisted affordable senior living community located on 3.86 acres. It will be the second affordable senior housing community administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Section 202 program and managed by AHEPA Senior Living in South Bend. AHEPA 100 II, Inc., is the project’s nonprofit sponsor. |

Newly Appointed Greek Consul visits AHEPA HQ |
|
New Consul of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Michael Skopelitis, visited AHEPA Global Headquarters in Washington, DC, only four blocks away from the greek Embassy and Consulate offices. He was able to meet with AHEPA Executive Director Basil Mossaidis and discuss AHEPA and the impact the organization has had in Greece over the years since its founding in 1922.
Executive Director Mossaidis congratulated Consul Skopelitis on his recent appointment to the Washington, DC consulate. AHEPA looks forward to working with the new consul in the future and wishes him the best of luck in his new position. |

Mavroyannis Scholarship Winner Announced |
|
AHEPA Educational Foundation Chairman George Vorkas on behalf of the Supreme President and the Mavroyannis Family are proud to announce the Constantine and Patricia Mavroyannis Scholarship recipient for 2024 is Sotirios Mygdalas of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and the University of Waterloo, Canada. Mr. Mygdalas will receive an award of $5,000 to support doctoral research in theoretical physics for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Cyprus tourism weathering the storm – so far CyprusMail (October 13) As the war between Hezbollah, Hamas and Israel rages on, Cyprus is playing an important role for evacuees from Lebanon. Positioned strategically close to the conflict zone, the island is assisting in the humanitarian efforts to repatriate civilians under the Estia national plan. Hotels across the country, particularly near Larnaca, are adapting to the new influx, but for now, the industry remains largely unaffected. read more
Athens dismisses six-mile concessions Ekathimerini (October 14) Greece has firmly ruled out any compromise on reducing its territorial waters to six nautical miles in its ongoing dispute with Turkey, a senior government official said, dispelling speculation about potential concessions ahead of crucial diplomatic talks. read more
FinMin: Greek economy on track for continued growth Ekathimerini (October 14) A combination of pro-growth policies and social support measures will ensure the country’s continued fiscal stability and growth, Economy and Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis said on Monday. Despite global challenges, “the Greek economy remains on a growth trajectory and will continue to outperform the euro zone average,” he told Parliament’s Committee on Economic Affairs during a discussion on the 2025 State Budget. read more
Michael Psaros, Dean Spanos Among Diaspora Hellenes Featured on New Greek Stamps The National Herald (October 14) The Hellenic Post (ELTA) and the International Foundation for Greece (IFG) presented the latest issues of the Commemorative Stamp Series ‘Distinguished Greek Personalities – IFG’ at a press conference on October 14 at the Dimitrios Pandermalis amphitheater of the Acropolis Museum. As was explained by IFG Founder and President Aspasia Leventis and the event’s moderator, journalist and author Giorgos Archimandritis, the Foundation established the IFG Awards as a recognition of successful Hellenes abroad who, not only do they not forget their Hellenic origin, but through their work and lives express, promote, and invigorate the Hellenic Spirit. read more
Dazzling ‘Mount Athos & Meteora 1929’ Exhibition at MCC in Brookline, MA. The National Herald (October 13) The exhibition ‘Mount Athos & Meteora 1929: Princeton’s Hidden Treasure’ has opened at the Maliotis Cultural Center (MCC) on the campus of Hellenic College – Holy Cross in Brookline, MA. The event made a deep impression on the guests – who admired the installation – touching the hearts of those present. Many visitors had the opportunity to approach for the first time two significant pilgrimage sites of the Greek Orthodox Church through the eyes of four travelers who undertook a photographic recording mission in 1929 funded by Princeton University. read more |
