Greece heads to new election, after conservatives fail to clinch majority despite landslide win AP (May 23) Greece is heading toward a new general election, two days after Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ center-right New Democracy party won a landslide victory in a national vote but failed in clinch a majority in parliament. A power-sharing deal was put mathematically out of reach Tuesday, after the main opposition party formally received — and summarily rejected — an invitation to try and form the country’s next government. read more
Greece recovers hundreds of stolen artefacts BBC News (May 20) Greece says it has recovered hundreds of looted artefacts, including a 2nd-Century bronze statue of Alexander the Great. The trove was recovered after a legal battle with the company of a British antiquities dealer, officials said. Best Artificial Intelligence Project Award to Gioula Papadopoulou at Dérapage 23 National Herald (May 22) Visual artist Gioula Papadopoulou received the award for the Best Artificial Intelligence project at Dérapage 23, an event in Montreal, Canada, dedicated to non-narrative and abstract video, with a history since 2000. The screening of the selected works and the presentation of the awards of this year’s edition of Dérapage took place at the Cinémathèque Québécoise on May 11, in collaboration with the Sommets du cinéma d’animation festival. The award for an Artificial Intelligence project was established for the first time this year as a special category, focusing on the use of contemporary generative AI tools.read more |
