EU POLITICS AND INSTITUTIONS
Assessing the Covid-19 period, reports analyse European Council's and EU Council's adaptability to new working methods showing a high degree of flexibility and political will to find pragmatic solutions during the pandemic. In order to lead the way to a Union that is apt for future challenges, papers suggest the EU should become more ambitious and embrace alternatives, such as differentiated integration. They also focus on the Czech presidency work programme against a changing political reality, due to the Russian war in Ukraine and its consequences, such as a massive refugee flow and the security of energy supply of fossil fuels to Europe.

EU POLICIES
With regard to food prices, reports link price increases to the Covid-19 pandemic, to transport infrastructure shortages, and to the recently rising energy costs due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Papers analyse how global value chains interact with business activities across multiple countries and entities, from the production to marketing, logistics or support services. On economic/financial affairs, papers compare the new transmission protection instrument with the old one launched by the ECB after the famous "Whatever it takes" pronounced by Mario Draghi, finding that the most important thing in common is the absence of quantitative limits on the size of the intervention by the central bank. They look at the future of EU climate policies in the context of the Conference on the Future of Europe, as well as at the international dimension of the European Green Deal. Insights analyse how to rethink European gas markets by reconciling EU energy security with climate policies.

FOREIGN AND SECURITY POLICY / DEFENCE
Discussing Josep Borrell's declaration about "the awakening of geopolitical Europe”, reports note that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has catapulted the EU toward greater geopolitical assertiveness and unity; that Europe cannot wait for unity and should improve EU foreign policy effectiveness; and that it is time to act on the EU defence area, building a united European defence with its own strategic and technological autonomy. They ask what the war in Ukraine means for the global nuclear order, and which are possible post-war scenarios and migration repercussions.

Reports analyse the post-Brexit EU–UK cooperation on migration and asylum, as well as Brexit's overall economic and political consequences. Against the background of the model of staged accession of the Western Balkans into the EU, papers address key regional dilemmas and concerns pointing to EU's role to mitigate crisis situations and disputes. They discuss Moscow’s strategic obsession with the Eastern Mediterranean; and also Iran's place between East and West taking into account the future of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action as well as the war in Ukraine and the energy politics.
