Invitation Limiter la pauvreté parmi les Roms: réduire l'écart de pauvreté 27/06/2024 | 10h00 – 13h00 | Audition publique hybride | CESE

The EESC is organising an hybrid public hearing on 27 June 2024 from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. 80% of Roma remain at risk of poverty, far more than the rate of 16.8% for the general population. Whilst surveys show a decrease in the rate of Roma living in severe material deprivation, this still contrasts sharply to the rate amongst non-Roma.  Reducing this poverty gap is one of the main objectives of the new EU Roma strategic framework, which foresees to cut this by half by 2030. The hearing will look at recent surveys on poverty amongst the Roma. It will discuss in more detail how EU policies on combatting poverty can be taken forward and contribute to improving the situation of the Roma community. It will also discuss measures and good practices on how the poverty gap can be narrowed. Your participation and input are most welcome! L'audition examinera des enquêtes récentes sur la pauvreté parmi les Roms. Il discutera plus en détail de la manière dont les politiques de l'UE en matière de lutte contre la pauvreté peuvent être mises en œuvre et contribuer à améliorer la situation de la communauté rom. Il discutera également des mesures et des bonnes pratiques permettant de réduire l'écart de pauvreté.   Votre participation et votre contribution sont les bienvenues ! Yesterday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, on the margins of the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, in Switzerland.

Prime Minister Trudeau congratulated President Stubb on his election win and looked forward to working together on priorities shared by Canada and Finland, including fighting climate change, addressing energy insecurity, and building clean economies.

The Prime Minister and the President reiterated their commitment to stand with Ukraine in the face of Russia’s ongoing war of aggression and emphasized the importance of global solidarity in support of a just and sustainable peace. They reaffirmed their unwavering support for President Zelenskyy’s diplomatic efforts toward peace.

The two leaders underlined the importance of ensuring the safety, security, and defence of the Arctic, and in this context, highlighted notable shipbuilding investments between industry leaders in their two countries. They emphasized their commitment to defending Arctic sovereignty and discussed ways that Canada, Finland, and other North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Allies and partners can work together in defence of NATO’s northern flank.
