Science and Engineering Indicators Explorer
The Science and Engineering Indicators Explorer is a forthcoming web application that will help you create custom visualizations of science and engineering data. You don’t need to be an expert to use this tool—it's designed for anyone who’s interested in analyzing and sharing data on key indicators of U.S. science and engineering performance.
The National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) within the U.S. National Science Foundation is excited to announce an innovative new project. We are expanding the NCSES Data Tool suite to include a new data tool for Science and Engineering Indicators called the Indicators Explorer. Development is in progress, and we’d like users to get a look at this tool, give their impressions, and test functionality.
To see if you are eligible to participate in usability testing of the new tool, please complete this brief questionnaire:
INDICATORS EXPLORER SCREENER SURVEY
This survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete. Your information will be kept confidential (see our privacy statement). The OMB control number for this study is 3145-0215.
If selected to participate in a one-on-one interview, you may be eligible to earn a $50 VISA e-gift card.
For more details, click here to read the Knowledge Base article about the new tool.
The Indicators Explorer will launch in May 2026. After it launches, it will be updated and improved as new data and features become available.
SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING INDICATORS
Science and Engineering Indicators is a Congressionally mandated suite of products on the state of the U.S. science and engineering enterprise. The reports are prepared under the guidance of the National Science Board by the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics within the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF).
NATIONAL SCIENCE BOARD
The National Science Foundation Act of 1950 charged the National Science Board (NSB) with two roles: governing board of the NSF and advisor to Congress and the President on policy matters related to STEM research and STEM education. Selected for their distinguished service and accomplishments in academia, government, and the private sector, the Board’s 24 presidentially appointed members are leaders in STEM research and education.
NATIONAL CENTER FOR SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING STATISTICS
The National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) is the nation's leading provider of statistical data on the U.S. science and engineering enterprise. As a principal federal statistical agency, NCSES serves as a clearinghouse for the collection, interpretation, analysis, and dissemination of objective science and engineering data.
