NATO Secretary General visits Germany On Thursday, 11 December, the NATO Secretary General, Mr Mark Rutte, visited Berlin, Germany. The NATO Secretary General met the Federal Chancellor, Mr Friedrich Merz, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Johann Wadephul. While in Berlin, the NATO Secretary General will provide a keynote address at the “MSC in Berlin” event organised by the Munich Security Conference. NATO and the US Army demonstrate low-cost counter-UAS system to protect NATO airspace NATO’s Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) and US Army Europe and Africa (USAEURAF) recently demonstrated a low-cost counter-UAS (Unmanned Aircraft system) system procured by Poland and Romania to defend their airspace. Polish, Romanian, and US forces demonstrated the system, called Merops. Launched from the back of a pickup truck, the drone can seek out targets autonomously using radio frequency, radar guidance or thermal signatures.  USAEURAF loaned dozens of Merops interceptors and ground control stations to Poland and Romania as part of Eastern Sentry, a defensive activity declared by Allies following the 9 September violation of Poland's airspace by more than 20 drones.  Click here for the b-roll. NATO Secretary General hosts discussions with the President of Ukraine, the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission On Monday, 8 December 2025, the NATO Secretary General, Mr Mark Rutte, received the President of Ukraine, Mr Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of the European Council, Mr António Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ms Ursula von der Leyen, at his official residence, in Brussels. 12 December 2025 Update NATO Secretary General visits Berlin On 11 December 2025, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte visited Berlin for meetings with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. Read more NATO Allies and partners fund over 4 billion dollars in PURL packages for Ukraine NATO Allies and partners have pledged more than 4 billion dollars in critical military equipment and munitions for Ukraine, sourced from the United States, under NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative. Since August 2025, they have committed 1 billion dollars every month, with more contributions expected to follow this month and into next year. This support is crucial for Ukraine, providing essential air defences and other equipment needed as they continue to defend against Russian attacks. Read more North Atlantic Council discusses energy security On 10 December 2025, Secretary General Mark Rutte welcomed the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, the European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Joergensen, and the Assistant Secretary of the US Department of Energy, Tommy Joyce, to NATO Headquarters for a meeting with NATO Allies in the North Atlantic Council. Read more NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy visits the Republic of Moldova On 8–10 December 2025, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Ambassador Boris Ruge, visited the Republic of Moldova. Ambassador Ruge met Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and other key officials to discuss the long-standing partnership between the Alliance and Moldova, including opportunities to further strengthen political dialogue and practical cooperation. Read more Admiral Cavo Dragone chairs his first NATO Defense College Academic Advisory Board On 4-5 December 2025, the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, presided over his first NATO Defense College (NDC) Academic Advisory Board meeting. While at the NDC, he also interacted with the students of the 147th Senior Course, on the theme: Alliance’s State of the Art, NATO Military Priorities, and Partnerships. NATO Deputy Secretary General to visit the Netherlands On 11 and 12 December 2025, the NATO Deputy Secretary General, Ms Radmila Shekerinska, will visit the Netherlands. On Thursday, 11 December, Ms Shekerinska will visit the Port of Rotterdam, where she will discuss resilience and industry with Dutch representatives of the transport and energy sectors. While in Rotterdam, she will also meet the City Mayor, Ms Carola Schouten. In the afternoon, the Deputy Secretary General will travel to The Hague, where she will meet the Prime Minister, Mr Dick Schoof. On Friday, 12 December, Ms Shekerinska will speak at an event organised by the Institute Clingendael and the Netherlands Atlantic Association. She will take part in a panel discussion on the topic “From The Hague to Ankara: NATO and The Future of Euro-Transatlantic Security”. She will also meet senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence. Later that day, the Deputy Secretary General will travel to Delft and visit the Innovative Solutions In Space (ISISPACE) premises.
