German Eurofighter Typhoons secure skies over NATO’s eastern flank The German Air Force, deployed to Romania, are helping to secure NATO’s eastern flank skies as part of NATO’s enhanced Air Policing mission. German Eurofighter Typhoons arrived in August 2025 at Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base to begin their rotation. Under the enhanced Air Policing mission, the fighters and their pilots stand a 24-hour watch, ready to launch within 15 minutes of alert. While the Romanian Air Force has supersonic fighter jets capable of intercepting an aircraft, NATO Allies deploy rotations of fighters to supplement their capabilities. 7 November 2025 Update NATO Secretary General visits Romania On 5 and 6 November 2025, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte visited Romania. He met the President of Romania, Nicuşor Dan, on 5 November. In a joint press conference following their meeting, the Secretary General thanked Romania for its contributions to Alliance defence and security, including leadership in the context of Black Sea security. The dialogue focused on current defence industrial priorities, including uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), counter-UAS, science and technology, innovation, standardization and supply chain security. The Secretary General will address the media on the day of the meeting. On Tuesday, 2 December 2025, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will brief the press ahead of the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs. Media representatives without annual accreditation to NATO can apply for ad-hoc accreditation for the event until Sunday, 23 November 2025, at 23:59 (CET).
