Tsivicos welcomed by Automotive District 10 |
|
Supreme President Savas C. Tsivicos visited AHEPA District 10, where he received a warm welcome to Michigan for a weekend full of fellowship, recognition, and dedication to the Order of AHEPA's mission.
The Automotive District's lodge hosted the Supreme President in a private dinner where Brother Tsivicos joined members in discussing key issues that currently impact the Order. Courtesy of Brother Dino Stathis, the evening continued with fellowship at a cigar night, bringing together brothers in true AHEPA spirit. During the evening, the brothers of VI Chebithes Chapter 391 presented outgoing District Governor James Thomas with a personal AHEPA sword—commemorating his service and dedication to the District over the past year.
At Saturday’s Educational Foundation Banquet, over $200,000 in scholarships were awarded to 56 deserving students—each receiving a minimum of $2,500. The Supreme President presented the AHEPA Medal of Honor to several distinguished brothers for their decades of service and leadership: Past Chairman Dino Stathis, Milton Gust, Lou Pavledes, Past Supreme Governor George Mortis, Honored Dignitary Spyros Politis, longtime Lodge Member Theo Alexander, Dr. Theodore Pantos, Peter Rageas, John Manolis, and Vasili Vouharas. Special recognition was also given to outgoing District Governors Joanne Dau and James Thomas, and incoming Governor Othon Economopoulos. Together, they presented Brother Milton Gust with a 50-Year Service Award for his lifetime of honorable service, particularly in the founding and growth of the Educational Foundation.
The weekend served as a powerful reaffirmation of AHEPA’s enduring values and impact. |

AHEPA Lays Wreath in Arlington National Cemetery |
|
Since 1924, The Order of AHEPA has been honored with the opportunity to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. This year was no exception!
Though travel to District conventions and previous obligations prevented the Supreme President from laying the wreath himself this year, AHEPA Executive Director Basil Mossaidis was honored to brave the torrential rain and represent Supreme President Tsivicos on this momentous occasion. He was accompanied by AHEPA Brother Michael Zachariades as he honored and remembered those who lost their lives serving our country. |

Italy, Greece and Spain emerge as winners in bond market anxiety Financial Times (June 10) Italian, Spanish and Greek sovereign bonds have emerged as the unlikely winners from this year’s bond market ructions, mounting a “relentless” rally that has narrowed the gap with Germany’s benchmark borrowing costs to nearly the smallest in more than a decade. Bond fund managers said the turnaround from the Eurozone debt crisis, when the countries endured soaring borrowing costs, was due to stronger than expected growth and increased sharing of debt burdens by the bloc’s members. read more
Mitsotakis Says Greece’s Marine Park Procedures Set to Begin National Herald (June 10) Speaking at the 3d United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Greece will imminently begin legal procedures to set up the country’s first two marine parks. He said the two marine parks will be established in the Ionian Sea and the Cyclades and that the initiative is to protect Greece’s rich marine ecosystems and biodiversity, although Turkey has some objections. “I am happy to announce that Greece has taken a very important step in marine protection at the national level,” saying that it’s a first phase, “with more to come,” and that “state-of-the-art monitoring” and “effective governance in collaboration with NGOs” would be implemented. read more
Lawmakers expelled from Greece's parliament over ties to jailed far-right politician My Journal Courier (June 10) Three far-right lawmakers in Greece were expelled Tuesday from parliament due to ties with a jailed politician convicted of leading a criminal organization. A court found that Vasilis Stigas, the leader of the far-right Spartans party, and two other party lawmakers had misled voters in the 2023 parliamentary election. The decision comes as concerns grow among traditionally dominant political parties over the rise of far-right parties across Europe and their willingness to disrespect democratic rules. read more
Greece Rolls Out Tough New Campervan Restrictions That Hit Travelers with Steep Fines and Disrupt Dream Road Trips Across the Country Travel & Tour World (June 10) Greece has introduced tough new restrictions that significantly impact campervan, caravan, and trailer travelers, effectively transforming the way road trips can be enjoyed across the country. Under the new law, parking in public spaces such as beaches, forests, historic landmarks, and even private land is now prohibited unless the location is a licensed campsite. Violators risk fines of up to £250, marking a dramatic shift aimed at controlling overtourism, protecting the environment, and easing pressure on local infrastructure. This bold move is designed to preserve Greece’s natural and cultural heritage while pushing tourism toward more sustainable, regulated practices. read more
