AHEPA and Election Day

 

American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association Brothers: Since 1922, AHEPA has been promoting good citizenship and civic responsibility through public service. November 3, 2020 is Election Day. Exercise the right to vote your conscience on issues affecting all of us as American Citizens and as members of the Hellenic American Community.   The most sacred right we have as citizens is the right to vote. Voting is the language with which democracy is spoken. In the spirit of civic responsibility, we are encouraging our chapters to advocate members to go vote, volunteer to assist in your polling places, and exercise your right to open, free elections.  No other country has what we have and that is why AHEPA chapters maintain and thrive in their respective communities and make the effort to all our fellow citizens have the ability to vote. AHEPA follows and tracks the record of our elected officials in Washington, and the Report Card references members who are members of the Hellenic Caucus and members who vote for issues we feel are important to our community. As part of our efforts to educate voters, we have linked to the 2020 AHEPA Congressional Info Card for both the Senate and the House of Representatives below, so that you can see how elected officials in your home state feel about the issues you care about.   AHEPA continues to support our communities and works with everyone to assure a better tomorrow. AHEPA Strongly Denounces Turkey's Decision to Reopen Varosha

Supreme President George G. Horiates has issued the following statement: AHEPA strongly denounces Turkey’s illegal reopening of the Varosha beachfront, located within the abandoned fenced-off area of Turkish-occupied Cyprus, which is another provocative act by the Erdogan regime that is in blatant violation of several UN security council resolutions. Under the Erdogan regime, Turkey once again is responsible for the escalation of tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean. Turkey demonstrates zero desire to be a problem-solver and zero interest to help provide a working environment that is conducive to facilitating productive Cyprus settlement talks, which is in the best interests of all parties involved. With this disruptive action, Turkey only adds to its laundry list of aggressive and provocative behavior that shuns international norms and American values, challenges America’s security interests, and threatens NATO allies and strategic partners of the United States in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East. AHEPA has conveyed its alarm and concern to the U.S. Department of State and urged the department to speak out in opposition to Turkey’s decision to reopen the Varosha beachfront. # # #
