The Prague Process: Conference on Migration returns to Prague after 13 years





Current migration challenges in our region and beyond or the future of cooperation within the Prague Process, these are the main topics of the two-day ministerial conference taking place on 24 and 25 October 2022 in Prague as part of the Czech EU Presidency. The ministers agreed on a joint Declaration and Action Plan for 2023-2027.


The Ministerial Conference of the Prague Process was opened today by Interior Minister Vít Rakušan. It is one of the one of the biggest events organised by the Ministry of the Interior as part of the Czech Presidency bringing together representatives of almost 50 countries. These countries are currently facing several challenges. From war conflicts, to migration, to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic.

Cooperation between our countries is now more important than ever. The fact that we are all here today is a testament to our migration partnership. I am glad that we have agreed that we want to tackle all the current challenges together and we will continue our cooperation on migration,Vít Rakušan1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior



The ministers opened the first day of the conference with a debate on the current migration challenges in our region and beyond. They discussed the impact of the war in Ukraine, the problems related to dramatic increase in irregular migration and the situation along the Western Balkan migration route, which is currently the main route for illegal migration to the EU.

"If we want to do something about the current increase in migration, we need to address the situation primarily at the EU's external border and work closely with countries of origin and transit," added Vít Rakušan. The conference is attended by ministers responsible for migration from the EU, Schengen area, Eastern Partnership, Western Balkans, Central Asia, Turkey, EU institutions and representatives of EU agencies.

Global Economy How To Deal With a Strong Dollar Why Countries Must Cooperate on Carbon Prices (ADOBE STOCK) The US dollar is at its highest level since 2000, having appreciated by 22 percent against the yen, 13 percent against the Euro and 6 percent against emerging-market currencies since the start of this year. Such a sharp strengthening of the dollar in a matter of months has sizable macroeconomic implications for almost all countries, the IMF’s Gita Gopinath and chief economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas write in a blog. For many countries fighting to bring down inflation, the weakening of their currencies relative to the dollar has made the fight harder. On average, the estimated pass-through of a 10 percent dollar appreciation into inflation is 1 percent. Such pressures are especially acute in emerging markets. The appropriate policy response to depreciation pressures requires a focus on the drivers of the exchange rate change and on signs of market disruptions, the authors say. “Specifically, foreign exchange intervention should not substitute for warranted adjustment to macroeconomic policies.”   Sub-Saharan Africa Inflation Among Most Urgent Challenges Most Urgent Challenges (RUTH ESTHER MBABAZI/IMF PHOTOS) Sub-Saharan Africa faces one of the most challenging economic environments in years, marked by a slow recovery from the pandemic, rising food and energy prices, and high levels of public debt. One of the most urgent issues confronting the region is the need to tackle decade-high levels of inflation while also supporting growth, write the IMF’s Marijn Bolhuis and Peter Kovacs in a blog that draws on the latest regional outlook. There are big differences between countries, but the median of inflation rates increased to almost 9 percent in August. And even though the rise has been less dramatic than in other parts of the world and the drivers are different, inflation is nearly double pre-pandemic levels risking social and political instability and worsening food insecurity, the authors say.

● Council of the EU   24/10/2022 15:27 | Press release | Council approves conclusions for UN biodiversity summit in Montreal (COP15)   The Council today approved conclusions in view of the conference of parties for the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 15), the Cartagena Protocol (COP-MOP 10) and the Nagoya Protocol (COP-MOP 4), to be held in Montreal, Canada, from 7 to 19 December 2022. The conclusions will serve as the EU’s general negotiating position in the meetings. This is expected to be a landmark UN Biodiversity Conference, where the intention is to adopt a post-2020 global biodiversity framework, setting out goals to guide global actions to protect and restore nature into the next decade. "This will be a breakthrough conference. World leaders will gather to agree on the global protection of our biodiversity. We are already witnessing a serious decline of different species and it is time to act. I am glad the EU agreed on a strong position for the biodiversity summit. Dear maria, We just published a new blog—please find the full text below.  Europe Must Address a Toxic Mix of High Inflation and Flagging Growth (Photo: IMF Photos) By Alfred Kammer As Russia’s war in Ukraine takes a rising toll on Europe’s economies, growth is flagging across the continent, while inflation shows little sign of abating. Europe’s advanced economies will grow by just 0.6 percent next year, while emerging economies (excluding Türkiye and conflict countries Belarus, Russia, Ukraine) will expand by 1.7 percent, according to projections in our latest World Economic Outlook. That’s down by 0.7 percentage point and 1.1 percentage points, respectively, from July’s projections. This winter, more than half of the countries in the euro area will experience technical recessions, with at least two consecutive quarters of shrinking output; among these countries, output will fall, on an average, by about 1.5 percent from its peak. Croatia, Poland and Romania will experience technical recessions as well, with an average peak-to-trough output decline of more than 3 percent. Next year, Europe’s output and income will be nearly half a trillion euros lower as compared to the IMF’s pre-war forecasts—a stark illustration of the continent’s severe economic losses from the war. And while inflation is projected to decline next year, it will stay significantly above central bank objectives, at about 6 percent and 12 percent, respectively, in advanced and emerging European economies.

Οι Οινοποιοί της Κρήτης και η έκθεση κρητικού κρασιού «ΟιΝοτικά» έρχονται για 5^η χρονιά στην Αθήνα για το ετήσιο ραντεβού τους με το αθηναϊκό κοινό.

Μετά από δύο χρόνια απουσίας λόγω της πανδημίας, οι Οινοποιοί της Κρήτης με την υποστήριξη της Περιφέρειας Κρήτης, επανέρχονται δυναμικά στην πρωτεύουσα και σας προσκαλούν στην έκθεση Κρητικού κρασιού «ΟιΝοτικά», τη Δευτέρα 31 Οκτωβρίου στο ξενοδοχείου Athenaeum InterContinental, στη Λ.Συγγρού.

31 Οινοποιεία από όλη την Κρήτη μεταφέρουν στις αποσκευές τους 11 γηγενείς ποικιλίες, 7 ζώνες ΠΟΠ και 6 ζώνες ΠΓΕ και έρχονται στην πρωτεύουσα για να συναντηθούν με το αθηναϊκό κοινό και τους επαγγελματίες του κλάδου τροφίμων και ποτών. Η οινική Κρήτη σας προσκαλεί να μυηθείτε στα μοναδικά αρώματα του Βιδιανού, του Λιάτικου, του Ρωμέικου, της Βηλάνας και πολλών ακόμα πρεσβευτών του Κρητικού αμπελώνα. Περισσότερες από 300 ετικέτες του Κρητικού Αμπελώνα από γηγενείς και διεθνείς ποικιλίες θα είναι διαθέσιμες προς δοκιμή για τους επισκέπτες.

Η εξωστρέφεια των κρητικών οινοποιείων συνεχίστηκε δυναμικά και κατά τη διάρκεια της πανδημίας, αφού δεν σταμάτησαν να προβάλλουν και να προωθούν τις γηγενείς ποικιλίες του νησιού και τον μοναδικό χαρακτήρα του Κρητικού αμπελώνα με διοργανώσεις εντός και εκτός συνόρων:

Τα οινοποιεία της Κρήτης έδωσαν το παρόν σε σημαντικές οινικές διοργανώσεις όπως η PROWEIN, η London Wine Fair και το Οινόραμα, διαδίδοντας το ποιοτικό κρητικό κρασί στο διεθνές κοινό αλλά και στους έλληνες επαγγελματίες και οινόφιλους. Παράλληλα, συνεχίστηκαν οι πολύ επιτυχημένες εκθέσεις κρητικού οίνου στην Κρήτη αλλά και η πρώτη διοργάνωση της έκθεσης ΟιΝοτικά στην Κύπρο, με σημαντική ανταπόκριση του κλάδου και των οινόφιλων της Μεγαλονήσου.

ΤΑΞΙΔΙΑ ΓΝΩΡΙΜΙΑΣ ΞΕΝΩΝ ΕΠΑΓΓΕΛΜΑΤΙΩΝ

Στο πλαίσιο προώθησης και προβολής της Προστατευόμενης Γεωγραφικής Ένδειξης «Κρήτη», σημαντικοί επαγγελματίες του οίνου, δημοσιογράφοι και σομμελιέ από τις ΗΠΑ και το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, επισκέφτηκαν το νησί και περιηγήθηκαν σε οινοποιεία, αμπελώνες και σημεία πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς. Ο στόχος των δράσεων είναι η ακόμα μεγαλύτερη προσέλκυση ξένων επαγγελματιών στη διάδοση του κρητικού κρασιού παγκόσμια.

Ο γνωστός οινοδημοσιογράφος και σύμβουλος οίνου Σίμος Γεωργόπουλος θα παρουσιάσει το σεμινάριο με θέμα: «Μία Κρήτη για κάθε πιάτο!»                                                        

Ώρα διεξαγωγής σεμιναρίου: 17.00 σε ειδικά διαμορφωμένο χώρο της έκθεσης.
