Understand the VA's Plan for Distributing Vaccines




Currently, the Department of Veterans Affairs has a limited supply of vaccines — priority is given to those who are currently receiving care and meet a specific age requirement or have certain underlying medical conditions. If you’re a Veteran who already receives care at VA, your local health facility will contact you when your risk group becomes eligible. You do not need to call or to visit the facility to reserve or request a vaccine. The staff will only provide vaccines to Veterans who are currently eligible based upon risk criteria.

The VA plans to offer a free COVID-19 vaccine to all Veterans receiving VA health care who want one. Sign up and stay informed with ongoing updates on VA’s vaccine plan. When more vaccines are available, they will determine when vaccines can be provided through their community provider network and will identify additional groups for vaccination. Please wait for VA to contact you about getting a COVID-19 vaccine once you become eligible.

Statement by the Prime Minister to mark the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement to mark the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake:

“Ten years ago, people around the world watched in shock and horror as one of the largest earthquakes in recorded history struck the northeast coast of Japan on March 11, 2011, triggering a devastating tsunami. The events of that fateful day caused extensive damage, leaving more than 15,000 dead and 2,500 missing, in one of the worst humanitarian crises ever experienced by Japan.

“In the wake of this disaster, Canadians showed solidarity with the Japanese people in their time of need and provided immediate support, contributing over $40 million to relief efforts. Many Canadians living in Japan volunteered tirelessly to deliver supplies and messages of hope to their adopted home.

“On this solemn anniversary, we join Japanese communities in Canada and around the world to remember the victims of these tragic events. We offer our condolences to those who lost loved ones, and thank everyone who provided assistance in the weeks and months following the disaster. Our thoughts also go to those who were affected earlier this year when another earthquake hit the same region – a reminder of our fragility in the face of powerful natural forces.

“We also pay tribute to the incredible strength and determination Japanese people have displayed in the past decade to bring their country on the path to reconstruction and recovery. We have seen this same strength in communities across Canada and Japan as we continue to fight the global COVID-19 pandemic, and I am encouraged that the bonds between our two countries have grown stronger out of these experiences of hardship.

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I invite all Canadians to remember those who were lost in this tragedy. As efforts continue to address its impacts, I extend my profound gratitude to everyone working to build back better for a brighter, more resilient tomorrow.”

Le premier ministre Justin Trudeau a fait aujourd’hui la déclaration suivante pour souligner le 10^e anniversaire du grand séisme de l’est du Japon :

« Il y a dix ans, le 11 mars 2011, les gens du monde entier ont regardé avec horreur et stupéfaction l’un des plus grands séismes jamais enregistrés dans l’histoire frapper la côte nord-est du Japon et provoquer un tsunami dévastateur. Les événements qui se sont produits lors de ce jour fatidique ont causé des dommages considérables et fait plus de 15 000 morts et de 2 500 disparus, ce qui a donné lieu à l’une des plus graves crises humanitaires que le Japon ait connues. 

« Au lendemain de cette catastrophe, la population canadienne a fait preuve de solidarité envers les Japonais au moment où ils en avaient besoin, offrant un soutien immédiat de plus de 40 millions de dollars pour appuyer les efforts de secours. De nombreux Canadiens vivant au Japon ont également donné de leur temps sans compter afin de ravitailler les habitants de leur pays d’adoption et de leur livrer des messages d’espoir.

« En cet anniversaire solennel, nous nous joignons aux communautés japonaises au Canada et ailleurs dans le monde pour honorer la mémoire des victimes de ces événements tragiques. Nous offrons nos condoléances à ceux qui ont perdu des êtres chers et remercions les personnes qui ont offert leur aide dans les semaines et les mois suivant la catastrophe. Nos pensées accompagnent également ceux qui, plus tôt cette année, ont subi les ravages d’un autre séisme dans la même région. De tels événements nous rappellent notre fragilité face aux puissantes forces de la nature. 

« De plus, nous tenons à souligner la force et la détermination incroyables dont le peuple japonais a fait preuve au cours de la dernière décennie afin de mener son pays sur le chemin de la reconstruction et de la relance. Nous avons constaté la même force dans les communautés canadiennes et japonaises à chaque étape de notre lutte contre la pandémie de COVID-19, et il est encourageant de voir que les liens entre nos deux pays se sont renforcés au fil de ces épreuves.  

« Au nom du gouvernement du Canada, j’invite les Canadiens et les Canadiennes à se souvenir des personnes disparues dans cette tragédie. Tandis que les efforts se poursuivent pour en atténuer les effets, j’exprime toute ma gratitude aux gens qui s’efforcent de rebâtir en mieux pour que l’avenir soit plus radieux et empreint de résilience. »
