Adopted opinion

EESC Contribution to the EU's Priorities at the 71st session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UN CSW71) In this resolution, the EESC outlines the views of organized civil society in the EU on accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development , in view of the 71st meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in 2027. It underscores the contribution the EESC can bring in support of EU priorities at the CSW, while reaffirming its commitment to work with partners at national, EU and global level to transform commitments into concrete progress for all women and girls.

Key points reaffirms its unwavering commitment to gender equality, women’s rights and the empowerment of all women and girls as essential foundations of democracy, social justice, sustainable development and inclusive economic prosperity.  stresses the need for renewed political leadership, concrete implementation, adequate investment and strong accountability at national, EU and global level to accelerate the achievement of gender equality; highlights that a coherent and integrated approach to SDG implementation is needed to avoid siloed policymaking and fully reflect the interlinkages between goals. SDG 5 on gender equality cannot be achieved in isolation, nor can the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda be achieved without meaningful progress for women and girls.   (The links to the different language versions will work as soon as the opinion is translated) Read the Resolution

European Economic and Social Committee Comité économique et social européen Adopted opinion The public services sector in the EU adapted to new challenges This own-initiative opinion of the EESC aims to assess how public services can remain resilient, accessible and of high quality in the context of the ongoing transitions. It looks at the conditions needed to strengthen their capacity and sustainability, including adequate financing, effective administrations, digitalisation and AI, and better monitoring at EU level. The opinion also puts forward recommendations for a more coherent European approach to services of general interest, with strong involvement of social partners and civil society and a central role for social dialogue. Rapporteur: Mateusz SZYMAŃSKI Own-initiative opinion SOC/863 Plenary Session: 608 / 23-24/09/2026 Key points The EESC considers that high-quality, accessible and affordable public services are a cornerstone of democratic societies, social cohesion, economic development and the effective functioning of the European Union. Public services should be recognised as a strategic investment serving the common good. Preparedness and continuity of public service provision should therefore become key policy priorities. The EESC calls on the European Commission to develop, in consultation with social partners and civil society organisations, a comprehensive action plan on services of general interest. The EESC recommends that the quality, accessibility and operational capacity of public services be systematically monitored within the European Semester, supported by appropriate indicators measuring access to public services across the EU, while ensuring better and more systematic involvement of social partners and civil society organisations.
