Hello, Welcome to the summer edition of the EJC newsletter It's been a little while since our last update, and we're delighted to reconnect with news from across the EJC community. This summer, we're sharing a practical new resource for journalists and newsrooms covering climate, introducing two new cohorts of investigations tackling issues that matter across Europe, and looking ahead to an exciting new chapter for the European Journalism Centre. Practical tools for stronger climate hazard reporting - before, during and after disasters. Climate journalism shouldn't begin with disaster Climate emergencies do not begin when disaster strikes - and neither should journalism. Developed in partnership with REVOLVE and journalists, scientists, emergency responders and communities in Portugal and Spain, the new Climate Frontline Reporting Toolkit helps newsrooms prepare before climate hazards, report more effectively while they unfold, and continue asking questions after the cameras leave. The 57-page toolkit is accompanied by four printable Field Guides designed as practical newsroom companions. Together, they offer checklists, questions and exercises for building trusted relationships, reporting with affected communities, verifying information under pressure and following up long after the immediate emergency has passed. access the Climate Frontline Toolkit and Field Guides Meet the new IJ4EU investigations Twelve cross-border teams have been awarded a total of €190,000 through the latest IJ4EU Freelancer Support Scheme. The selected journalists will investigate stories spanning migration, environmental harm, political influence, surveillance and other issues that cross national borders. Alongside grants of up to €20,000, the teams will receive mentoring, training and networking support as they pursue their investigations. Thinking about applying? The Journalism Science Alliance has awarded nearly €950,000 to support 25 new investigations across Europe. Together, they examine urgent questions involving climate and the environment, health, artificial intelligence, inequality, migration, labour, corruption and democratic accountability. Each investigation pairs journalists with researchers, combining journalistic investigation with scientific knowledge, methods and evidence - helping teams uncover stories that neither field could pursue as effectively alone. discover the new Journalism Science Alliance investigations EJC joins the Plus alliance This summer also marks an important new chapter for the European Journalism Centre. The EJC has joined Code for Africa, ICFJ and Proto as a constituent member of the Plus alliance. Plus brings together four organisations with complementary strengths: ICFJ's four decades of experience supporting journalists worldwide; Proto's expertise in systems design and technology; Code for Africa's leadership in civic technology and information integrity; and the European Journalism Centre's experience designing programmes, convening journalism communities and strengthening independent journalism across Europe. For the EJC community, this means access to a broader global network, stronger technical capabilities and new opportunities for collaboration - while remaining rooted in the values and mission that have guided our work for more than three decades.
