European Heart Journal: Cardiac remodelling and dysfunction in cancer patients receiving cardiotoxic therapies: proteomic and metabolomic profiling

Proteomic and metabolomic profiling following the use of cardiotoxic drugs appear to be interesting and clinically useful. In their study (n= 547 breast cancer participants treated with cardiotoxic drugs), Bonnie Ky et al. demonstrated that 203 unique proteins and 16 unique metabolites were significantly associated with measures of cardiac structure and function in contemporary and lagged analyses. These findings also identified potential new biomarkers of cardiotoxicity. In this light, the possibility of individualising cardiotoxic treatment by increasing its efficacy and safety is quite realistic.
