ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE Leveraging Artificial Intelligence  IMF analysis shows that AI could boost non-oil GDP in Gulf countries by up to 2.8 percent. “For economies that have long been dependent on hydrocarbon exports, this presents an enormous opportunity to diversify and build new sources of growth,” said the IMF’s Managing Director.   Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Georgieva emphasized that the policy regimes countries put in place will largely determine whether they can successfully capitalize on AI’s enormous promise. “It falls to you, the world’s policymakers, to ensure that the opportunities are maximized for your countries and the risks controlled,” she noted. She emphasized the importance of “sweeping the legacy rules that do more harm than good - harm that disproportionately burdens small firms.”   “With the single market running on 27 national legal regimes for firms, we at the IMF strongly support your determination to bring to life a 28th regime—to allow firms to opt into a single, pan-EU legal framework covering company law and insolvency, broadening over time,” she added. The Romans, for example, expanded their empire by integrating the populations of newly conquered territory, creating a melting pot of new ideas. Johan Norberg’s latest book, Peak Human, examines the rise and fall of seven golden-age civilizations. In this podcast, he says that if openness and trade are key to the rise of civilizations, building walls to protect their dominance is what sparks their demise. Norberg is a historian and senior fellow at the Cato Institute.
