Japan: Japan Biomass Annual 2023
Japan has been dramatically increasing its wood pellet imports for its feed-in tariff (FIT) program, as more large-scale FIT-approved biomass power plants become operational. Palm kernel shell imports may slow down in the coming years, as Japan begins to enforce sustainability certification requirements from April 2024.
Japan: Japan Increases Feed Cost Support for Livestock Swine Poultry Producers
In April 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) implemented a special measure under the Compound Feed Price Stabilization System to augment feed compensation payments to livestock, poultry, and swine producers. This measure changed a formula which was minimizing feed support payments when feed costs remained high beyond a one-year period.
