The NATO Military Committee attend maritime-related discussions in the United KingdomOn 7-8 July 2022, the NATO Military Committee travelled to the United Kingdom to attend a series of maritime-related discussions hosted by the NATO Maritime Command. Aboard the HMS Prince of Wales, the NATO Military Representatives received briefings from the UK Strategic Command on Multi-Domain Operations and the Future Commando Force.

NATO Allies sign Accession Protocols for Finland and SwedenNATO Ambassadors signed the Accession Protocols for Finland and Sweden at NATO Headquarters on Tuesday (5 July 2022), in the presence of Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto and Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said: “This is truly an historic moment. For Finland, for Sweden, for NATO, and for our shared security.”

Finland and Sweden complete NATO accession talksFinland and Sweden completed accession talks at NATO Headquarters in Brussels on Monday (4 July 2022), as agreed last week by NATO leaders at their Summit in Madrid. Both countries formally confirmed their willingness and ability to meet the political, legal and military obligations and commitments of NATO membership.

NATO welcomes new Supreme Allied Commander EuropeGeneral Christopher Cavoli of the US Army assumed command of Allied Command Operations in a ceremony at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Mons, Belgium on Monday (4 July 2022). General Cavoli succeeds General Tod Wolters of the US Air Force, who had been in post since 2019.

Building on NATO Summit, Chair of Military Committee commends Spain for strong contributions to the AllianceFrom 30 June to 1 July 2022, the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, stayed in Spain, following the NATO Summit, to meet with His Majesty King Felipe VI, Spanish Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles Fernández, and the Spanish Chief of Defence, Admiral López Calderón. The Chair also visited the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Spain (NRDC-ESP), where he met with its Commander, Lieutenant General Fernando Garcia-Vaquero, and gave a lecture.
