Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, who congratulated him on his re-election.
The Prime Minister and President reiterated the importance of the mutually beneficial Canada-U.S. partnership for the security and prosperity of both countries.
The two leaders committed to getting together in person soon to discuss bilateral cooperation on a range of important files. These include bilateral economic and trade issues such as Buy America provisions; close collaboration on fighting climate change and promoting a green economic recovery, including at the upcoming COP26 summit in Glasgow; and the response to COVID-19, which includes the management of the Canada-U.S. land border.
The Prime Minister and President discussed China’s arbitrary detention of Canadian citizens Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig.
Prime Minister Trudeau also confirmed his intention to participate in the virtual Global COVID-19 Summit: Ending the Pandemic and Building Back Better Health Security to Prepare for the Next, which will be hosted by President Biden on September 22.
The two leaders looked forward to staying in touch.

Aujourd’hui, le premier ministre Justin Trudeau s’est entretenu avec le président des États-Unis d’Amérique, Joe Biden, qui l’a félicité pour sa réélection.
Le premier ministre et le président ont réitéré l’importance du partenariat mutuellement avantageux entre le Canada et les États-Unis pour la sécurité et la prospérité des deux pays.
Les deux dirigeants se sont engagés à se rencontrer en personne prochainement pour discuter de la coopération bilatérale dans divers dossiers importants. Ils aborderont notamment des enjeux économiques et commerciaux bilatéraux, y compris les dispositions « Buy America », la collaboration étroite dans la lutte contre les changements climatiques et la promotion d’une relance économique verte, notamment lors du prochain sommet COP26 à Glasgow. Ils discuteront également de la réponse à la COVID-19, qui comprend la gestion de la frontière terrestre entre les deux pays.
Le premier ministre et le président ont discuté de la détention arbitraire en Chine des citoyens canadiens Michael Spavor et Michael Kovrig.
De plus, le premier ministre Trudeau a confirmé son intention de participer au sommet mondial virtuel sur la COVID-19 : Ending the Pandemic and Building Back Better Health Security to Prepare for the Next (Mettre fin à la pandémie et renforcer la sécurité sanitaire pour se préparer à la prochaine), qui sera organisé par le président Biden le 22 septembre.
Les deux dirigeants se sont dits enthousiastes à l’idée de rester en contact.
