The African Group and the Cairns Group of agricultural exporting countries reported progress on key issues in their discussions and expressed hopes of presenting joint proposals in the near future. Brazil proposed to establish a dialogue on sustainable agriculture. The following GAIN reports were released on September 19, 2024. _______     European Union: Tree Nuts Annual In 2023, the European Union (EU)-27 imported $6.5 billion in tree nuts from the world. The EU remains a net importer of tree nuts for all products as demand highly exceeds domestic production. The United States is the largest EU-27 tree nuts supplier, providing $2.4 billion worth of nuts, or 37 percent of total imports. Nuts continue to benefit from their positive image as a healthy snack and a good source of all macronutrients, including carbohydrates, healthy fats and protein. Consumers are also paying more attention to the origin of what they eat, seeking out locally grown products, including nuts. More eco-friendly production, packaging, and distribution are becoming more popular among European consumers, particularly in the northern countries.   New Zealand: Livestock and Products Annual FAS/Wellington 2025 market year production forecast would be the highest annual production on record, If realized. In addition, post is forecasting that beef and veal exports in 2025 to also be the highest volume for New Zealand in a single year. This is anticipated to be driven by continued higher importer beef demand in the United States. The New Zealand national cattle herd has been decreasing year-on-year at 1 percent annually. NATO’s fighter pilots go head-to-head NATO’s fighter pilots met up for a “dogfighting” competition to sharpen their skills in a series of aerial duels high above Ramstein, Germany. The first “1 vs. 1” event hosted by United States Air Forces in Europe, this competition allowed NATO’s fighter pilots to test their mettle against aircraft they’ve never fought before, providing an invaluable opportunity to familiarise themselves with Allied equipment and tactics. The competition drew more than 30 jets from nine Allies, namely Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States, to Ramstein Air Base in Germany, which hosts the headquarters of NATO’s Allied Air Command. In this video, NATO asks two pilots who duelled each other – First Lieutenant Alexander “Stitch” Grandt of the German Air Force, and Captain Patrick “Hobit” Pearce of the US Air Force – to break down their aerial engagement and tell us what they have learnt from going head-to-head. The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the Mid-Autumn Festival:

“Tonight, we join Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and other Asian communities in Canada and around the world to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Zhōng qiū jié, Jūng-chāu jit, Chuseok, and Tết Trung Thu.

“Celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon is at its fullest and brightest, the Mid-Autumn Festival symbolizes unity, peace, and harmony. Today, families and friends will gather to watch the moon, exchange gifts, and spend time with loved ones. Around the world, brightly coloured lanterns will light up the night sky, and communities will come alive with fairs and markets offering local crafts and traditional foods such as mooncakes and songpyeon.
