The Obama Presidential Center vision is coming to life

 

Hi there, Last week, I had the chance to tour the Obama Presidential Center construction site—and they’ve made so much progress. This dream is becoming a reality, and that’s because of the incredible people who are bringing it to life.   On my tour of the site in Jackson Park,  I had the chance to meet some of the people behind this impressive work. Check out highlights from my site tour and learn more about what we’re building. From day one, we’ve wanted to make sure the people building the Center reflect the community it’s in. That means building a pipeline of sustainable jobs for our neighbors, crafted by our neighbors. The majority of our construction workers come from diverse backgrounds—and more than half live in Chicago.  I’m grateful for their hard work and commitment to building a hub for the next generation of leaders. And I hope the Center will set a new bar for diversity standards and serve as a model for future projects in the city.  When it’s completed, the Center will be a home-grown institution where we inspire and empower people and communities to act on the biggest challenges of our time, give leaders the tools they need to effect change, and prepare young people to help change their world.  I hope you’ll take a minute to check out what I saw. —Barack      Donate to empower rising leaders bringing hope to their communities. Η Ρωσία βρίσκεται στα πρόθυρα αθέτησης πληρωμών εξωτερικού χρέους για πρώτη φορά από την Ρωσική Επανάσταση πάνω από έναν αιώνα πριν, αποξενώνοντας τη χώρα ακόμα περισσότερο από το διεθνές χρηματοπιστωτικό σύστημα μετά τις κυρώσεις που επιβλήθηκαν λόγω του πολέμου στην Ουκρανία.

Μια περίοδος χάριτος 30 ημερών ως προς τις πληρωμές τόκων που κανονικά ήταν να γίνουν στις 27 Μαΐου εξέπνευσε την Κυριακή. Μα θα μπορούσε να χρειαστεί χρόνος για να επιβεβαιωθεί μια χρεοκοπία.

«Αν και υπάρχει μια πιθανότητα να γίνει κάτι μαγικό» και η Ρωσία να στείλει τα χρήματα μέσω χρηματοπιστωτικών ιδρυμάτων σε κατόχους ομολόγων παρά τις κυρώσεις, «κανείς δεν βάζει αυτό το στοίχημα» είπε ο Τζέι Σ. Exposure to pollution causes 10% of all cancer cases in Europe

 

Dear reader,

Exposure to air pollution, second-hand smoke, radon, ultraviolet radiation, asbestos, certain chemicals and other pollutants causes over 10% of all cancer cases in Europe, according to a European Environment Agency (EEA) report published today. The good news is that these risks are preventable.

CDC Recommends COVID-19 Vaccines for Young Children

CDC endorsed the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) recommendation that all children 6 months through 5 years of age should receive a COVID-19 vaccine. This expands eligibility for vaccination to nearly 20 million additional children and means that all Americans ages 6 months and older are eligible for vaccination.


Parents and caregivers can get their children 6 months through 5 years of age vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines to better protect them from COVID-19. All children, including children who have already had COVID-19, should get vaccinated.

COVID-19 vaccines have undergone—and will continue to undergo—the most intensive safety monitoring in U.S. history. Parents and caregivers can play an active role in monitoring the safety of these vaccines by signing their children up for V-safe – personalized and confidential health check-ins via text messages and web surveys where they can easily share with CDC how a child feels after getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

Parents can reach out to their doctor, nurse, local pharmacy, or health department, or visit vaccines.gov to see where vaccines for children are available.

CDC Recommends Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine for Children and Adolescents


CDC endorsed the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) recommendation that Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine be used as an option for children ages 6 through 17 years, in addition to its already recommended use in children 6 months through 5 years and adults 18 years and older.


This recommendation reinforces the use of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine as an important tool in the pandemic and provides another vaccine option for children and adolescents. The ACIP recommendation comes after a thorough review of the scientific evidence demonstrating safety and efficacy and supports the use of the vaccine among those 6 through 17 years of age.

They adopted the gas storage regulation and exchange views on emissions reductions from methane and buildings as well as the energy situation in the EU in the context of the war in Ukraine.

The Council adopted its negotiating positions (general approaches) on two proposals that tackle the energy aspects of the EU’s climate transition under the ‘Fit for 55’ package:revision of the energy efficiency directive

The presidency presented a report on the progress made on a proposal on the energy performance of buildings. The Commission adopted this proposal on 15 December 2021, as part of the ‘Fit for 55’ package and discussions on the proposal started have under the French Presidency. This directive is an essential instrument to achieve the EU’s decarbonisation objectives set for 2030 and 2050. At EU level, buildings represent 40% of energy consumption and 36% of direct and indirect energy-related greenhouse gas emissions.Progress report

Ministers also took note of a report presented by the presidency on the progress made on a proposal to reduce methane emissions in the EU. Methane is a greenhouse gas with a significant impact on climate change, and the most cost-effective reductions can be achieved in the energy sector. Energy situation in the EU in the context of the war in Ukraine

Ministers held an exchange views on the energy situation in the EU in the context of the war in Ukraine. Ministers held a political discussion on current developments in the natural gas sector and shared information on their country’s preparedness level for next winter. Ministers also discussed additional actions to be envisaged in order to strengthen the EU’s common preparation. In this context, the ministers welcomed the REPowerEU plan, presented by the Commission in May 2022 and the creation of the EU Energy Platform, which will have the task of working with international suppliers and managing voluntary gas purchases.Information note

Με πρωτοβουλία του Προέδρου της Υποεπιτροπής Νησιωτικών και Ορεινών Περιοχών της Βουλής και Βουλευτή Δωδεκανήσου, κ. Μάνου Κόνσολα, συνεδριάζει την Τετάρτη στη Βουλή η υποεπιτροπή με θέμα «Νησιωτική Πολιτική - εργαλεία εδαφικής συνοχής για τα νησιά».

Lying to the World About Global Food Security

Russian President Putin’s illegal and unprovoked war against Ukraine has had catastrophic effects on Ukraine, its neighbors, and people across the globe. The Kremlin’s war in Ukraine has wreaked death and destruction, killing thousands of civilians , displacing millions , making refugees of millions more, and massively damaging civilian infrastructure . The devastating effects of Russia’s aggression have disrupted Ukraine’s economy , which in turn has exacerbated global food insecurity. Ukraine has long been the “breadbasket of Europe, ” feeding millions of people across the globe. It is a top grain supplier to dozens of African and Middle Eastern countries. Now, after Russia’s February 24 all out invasion, Ukraine has turned “from a breadbasket to a breadline, ” while the Russian government uses disinformation to mislead the world about the cause of this crisis.

The event will be held at the Game Point Event Center, located at 6700 Kingspointe Pkwy in Orlando, a nearby 17 minutes from our convention hotel, Disney’s Coronado Springs. The venue includes six air-conditioned regulation-size basketball courts used by high school and college athletes.   The tournament is open to all AHEPA and Sons of Pericles teams and individuals interested in participating. If you are interested and don’t have a team, please let us know and we will arrange for you to play with another team or with an at-large team. The team entry fee is $300. Individual fee is $50. Entry fee will include a free t-shirt for each player. Teams will be guaranteed a minimum of three games. The tournament will be a double elimination format. Games will be begin around 11 am each day and wrap up by 6 pm.   For hotel accommodations, please contact the Disney Coronado Hotel using the link available on the AHEPA Supreme convention site here.   Teams already participating include Denver, Chicago, Milwaukee, New York, Boston, and Jacksonville and we expect more!
