In order to prepare its opinion on a renewed EU action plan against migrant smuggling (2021-2025) presented by the Commission, the EESC is organising a remote public hearing on 4 February 2022 from 10:00 to 13:00. The aim of the event is to discuss the action plan and to gather input from other EU Institutions, civil society organisations and other stakeholders, which will feed into the EESC's opinion. Your participation and input are most welcome!   The draft agenda and the registration form are available on the EESC Web Site. On 13 and 14 January 2022, the European Union Foreign Ministers met, as part of the French presidency of the Council of the European Union, at the Atelier des Capucins in Brest (Brittany), in the “Gymnich” format, following an invitation from Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs and Josep Borell, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.


The meeting enabled ministers to exchange views on the issue of security in the European Union’s eastern neighbourhood, against a background of increasing strategic tension between Russia and Ukraine, and on the situation in both Kazakhstan and Belarus. On this occasion, the European Union notably restated the need to pursue a policy based on two courses of action.

First was the adoption of a strong dissuasive position regarding any challenge to principles fundamental to European security, especially principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as the right for States to choose their own security arrangements and alliances. Following on from the European Council in December, ministers highlighted the importance of maintaining close coordination among Europeans. They also restated their determination to adopt, where necessary, large-scale sanctions in the event of any violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

In addition, ministers fully supported their ongoing diplomatic efforts, especially the “Normandie” format conducted by France and Germany for the full implementation of the Minsk agreements. They noted a consensus on the importance of continuing to engage in robust discussions with Russia, in accordance with European terms and parameters since the issue is primarily one of Europeans’ security.

Together with ministerial defence colleagues, ministers also discussed the “Strategic Compass”, which represents one of the French presidency’s main priorities. This document, a true European defence White Paper, serves to provide the framework for a joint analysis of the global upheavals and threats the European Union faces. It also serves to steer the European defence and security policy for 2030, the objective for the European Union being to increase its capacity, autonomy and sovereignty. Discussions enabled everyone to share their views and prepare the technical negotiations in such a way that the Strategic Compass document would be the most strategic, practical and ambitious document possible, with a view to its adoption by heads of state and government at the European Council on 24 and 25 March.

Relations with China also featured on the agenda, so as to reaffirm both the unity of the European Union on this affair and the full solidarity of Member States with Lithuania, which is the object of unacceptable diplomatic and economic pressure from Beijing. They repeated how important it was for the European Union to have the means to combat all forms of economic pressure to protect sovereign interests.

The European Union’s wish to reinforce its presence in the Indo-Pacific region was reaffirmed, in the continuity of the European strategy backed by the European Council in October. This was one of the French presidency’s priorities and the focus of a ministerial forum on 22 February in Paris.

Ministers spoke of the need to reinforce the European Union’s strategy of influence in international organizations so that our common vision might prevail, based on the respect of human rights and the promotion of effective and open multilateralism. They all agreed that this was all the more important and opportune that Europe (the European institutions and Member States) represented one of the main funders (often the primary funder) within these organizations.

Relations between Europe and Africa were also addressed in the presence of Moussa Faki, Chair of the African Union (AU) Commission and Aïssata Tall Sall, Senegalese Minister of Foreign Affairs, in view of the upcoming presidency of the African Union. Discussions included the importance of rebuilding the Euro-African partnership, which would be at the core of the EU–AU Summit in Brussels on 17 and 18 February, to enable a mutual reinforcement of both European and African sovereignty. The aim of a three-fold set of priorities around prosperity, security and mobility, was confirmed by all. Everybody mentioned the importance of grounding this rebuilt partnership in practical and structuring projects, especially in terms of health and vaccination sovereignty and on the reinforcement of the Euro-African security architecture.

Lastly, ministers discussed the situation in Mali, which was particularly concerning, since the presence of mercenaries from Russian company, Wagner, had now been established there, and the transition timescale had not been respected by the junta. Ministers highlighted the need for a coordinated European response, supporting the decisions taken by ECOWAS, including by adopting targeted sanctions against the Malian junta as soon as possible. They also recalled that engagement on the ground would continue, adding that this would not be maintained at any cost, and that close monitoring of the evolving situation was ongoing.

Βρέθηκε ο προδότης της Αννα Φρανκ: Πολυετής έρευνα κατέληξε σε ύποπτο – έκπληξη

Μια εξαετής έρευνα για το επί χρόνια άλυτο μυστήριο της προδοσίας της Άννας Φρανκ και της οικογένειάς της κατέληξε σε ένα συμπέρασμα – έκπληξη.

Σύμφωνα με την ομάδα των ειδικών που ερεύνησαν την υπόθεση και στην οποία συμμετείχαν περίπου 20 ιστορικοί, εγκληματολόγοι, ειδικοί ανάλυσης δεδομένων και ο συνταξιούχος πράκτορτας του FBI Βίνσεντ Πάνκοουκ, ο βασικός ύποπτος της προδοδίας φέρεται να είναι ο Εβραίος συμβολαιογράφος Arnold van den Bergh (Αρνολντ Βαν ντεν Μπεργκ).

Il s’agit d’un article paru dans le journal grec « Kathimerini » avec pour titre « Marseille : à la recherche de l’élément grec ».
En lisant cet article très intéressant, le titre ne correspond avec son contenu car pas d’élément grec comme l’école grecque, les associations, l’église…

Η Ελληνική εφημερίδα ΚΑΘΗΜΕΡΙΝΗ δημοσίευσε ένα πολύ ωραίο κείμενο για την ΜΑΣΣΑΛΙΑ με τίτλο
"Μασσαλία : Αναζητώντας το ελληνικό στοιχείο" Διαβάζοντας το άρθρο, που είναι κατά τα άλλα εξαιρετικό, εφόσον δίνει πολλές τουριστικές πληροφορίες για την πόλη της Μασσαλίας, δεν ανακαλύψαμε "το ελληνικό στοιχείο" όπως είναι ο τίτλος.
Αρκετοί Έλληνες της Μασσαλίας μας έστειλαν μηνύματα διευκρινίζοντας ότι υπάρχουν πολλά ελληνικά στοιχεία στη Μασσαλία και εκφράζουν την λύπη τους για την απουσία τους από το κείμενο του άρθρου αναρωτώμενοι : Κανένας Έλληνας στη Μασσαλία; κανένας Ελληνικός Σύλλογος; κανένα Ελληνικό Σχολείο; καμιά Ελληνική Εκκλησία;" και θέτοντας πολλά άλλα ερωτήματα.


Δημοσιεύουμε δύο από τα πολλά μηνύματα

Αγαπητή ‘Καθημερινή’, Αγαπητοί Συμπατριώτες,
Το άρθρο ‘Μασσαλία, αναζητώντας το ελληνικό στοιχείο’ της κας Ζαμπετάκη στο φύλλο της 3ης/1/2022 ήταν μια ευχάριστη έκπληξη στην αρχή του Νέου Έτους γιά τους Έλληνες της Μασσαλίας. Ναι, η Μασσαλία ιδρύθηκε από τους Φωκαείς πριν 26 αιώνες και τα ελληνικά στοιχεία βρίθουν στη πόλη μας. Έναυσμα της πρόσφατης δημοσίευσης ήταν ασφαλώς η έκθεση στο μουσείο της πόλης αντικειμένων από τη Μητέρα Ελλάδα. Και η ‘αναζήτηση του ελληνικού στοιχείου’ ίσως για ιστορική υπενθύμιση, αλλά και περισσότερο για τουριστικό ενδιαφέρον, νομίζω.
Δύο μόνο σημεία μου φάνηκαν ότι θα ήθελαν περισσότερο προσοχή σ’αυτή τη δημοσίευση.
Το πρώτο, το λιγότερο σημαντικό, είναι ότι ένα αναμφισβήτητο κι αναγνωρισμένο ‘ελληνικό στοιχείο της Μασσαλίας’ είναι η θεμελιωμένη πλάκα στο Παλιό Λιμάνι της πόλης (βλ. συνημμένη φωτογραφία), μόλις λίγα μέτρα μακρύτερα από τον οριζόντιο καθρέφτη, που φωτογραφία του υπάρχει στη δημοσίευση.
Το δεύτερο, το σημαντικότερο, είναι ότι η Ελληνικότητα της πόλης δεν είναι μόνο ιστορική, αλλά κι ενεργή με Ελληνικό Σχολείο, Ελληνική Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία, πολλούς ελληνικούς και φιλελληνικούς συλλόγους, δημοσιογραφική δραστηριότητα γιά τη Διασπορά, δηλ. με ενεργούς Έλληνες Μασσαλιώτες. Γι’αυτό το λόγο θεωρώ το τίτλο του δημοσιεύματος λίγο ακατάλληλο γιατί δεν συναθροίζει τον ενεργό ελληνισμό της πόλης μαζί με τον ιστορικό της.
Πιστεύω πως οι δημοσιογράφοι σας θα βρουν την ευκαιρία ν’αναπτύξουν κι αυτή τη πλευρά του θέματος (που δεν παύει να έχει κι αυτή τουριστικό ενδιαφέρον).

Γράψατε ένα πολύ ωραίο άρθρο για τη Μασσαλία και σας ευχαριστούμε για αυτό.
Μας κάνετε να ταξιδέψουμε στο Mucem και στις εκθέσεις του και συγκεκριμένα σε αυτή που προέρχεται από το μουσείο των Χανίων.
Από τη συνοικία Panier με το Μουσείο της Vieille Charité, στο παλιό λιμάνι με τη θέα της Notre Dame de la Garde, του Fort Saint Jean, του Saint Nicolas. Και σε όλα τα άλλα αξιοθέατα της Μασσαλίας Η Μασσαλία είναι μια κοσμοπολίτικη πόλη, όπως το διαπιστώσατε και σεις κάνοντας μια απλή βόλτα στο Παλιό Λιμάνι, στην Canebiere, την αγορά των Capucins ή στο Cours Julien. Μιλήσατε για τη φήμη του σαπουνιού και της μπουγιαμπέσας που είναι επίσης σύμβολα της Μασσαλίας. Μιλήσατε για τα ξενοδοχεία, τα εστιατόρια και τα καταστήματα της όμορφης πόλης μας.
Το άρθρο σας δημιουργεί αμέσως στον αναγνώστη την επιθυμία να έρθει και να επισκεφθεί αυτή τη μαγευτική πόλη. Είναι ένα αξιόλογο άρθρο.
Ο τίτλος του άρθρου σας όμως είναι : « Μασσαλία, αναζητώντας το ελληνικό στοιχείο».
Θα μου επιτρέψετε λοιπόν να προσθέσω κι εγώ δυο λόγια για την ελληνικότητα της Μασσαλίας.
Η Μασσαλία, είναι πόλη που ίδρυσαν οι Έλληνες Φωκαείς, (υπάρχει η αναμνηστική πλακέτα στο Παλιό Λιμάνι).
Στην Μασσαλία υπήρξε μία ισχυρή και δυναμική αποικία Ελλήνων εμπόρων κατά τον 19 ο αιώνα.
Στην Μασσαλία έφτασαν πολλά μεταναστευτικά και προσφυγικά κύματα Ελλήνων κατά τον 20 ο αιώνα.
Εξακολουθούν να ζουν στη Μασσαλία και στην περιοχή της πολλές οικογένειες απογόνων τόσο της ισχυρής εμπορικής αποικίας του 19 ου αιώνα αλλά και ένας σημαντικός πληθυσμός απογόνων των προσφύγων του 20 ου αιώνα.
Η Μασσαλία είναι γεμάτη με υπολείμματα αρχαιολογικών ανασκαφών, με ελληνικά ευρήματα, όπως ο μεγάλος κήπος του Μουσείου Ιστορίας της Μασσαλίας. Υπάρχουν ελληνικά κτίρια όπως η ελληνορθόδοξη εκκλησία, υπάρχουν δρόμοι με ονόματα που θυμίζουν Ελλάδα (όπως η Boulevard d'Athenes ή boulevard du Dr. Rodocanachi).
Στη Μασσαλία υπάρχει Ελληνορθόδοξη εκκλησία. Πρόκειται για μια από τις παλαιότερες της Ευρώπης με έτος ίδρυσης 1820.
Στη Μασσαλία υπάρχει και λειτουργεί Ελληνικό Ναυτικό Προξενείο.
Υπάρχει Ελληνικό Σχολείο αναγνωρισμένο από το Υπουργείο Εθνικής Παιδείας για παιδιά και ενήλικες με μαθήματα στους χώρους της Ελληνικής Ένωσης Μασσαλίας.
Στη Μασσαλία διδάσκονται τα νέα ελληνικά στο Λύκειο Thiers της Μασσαλίας, ένα από τα πιο αξιόλογα Λύκεια της Γαλλίας, όπου λειτουργεί και εξεταστικό κέντρο για την πιστοποίηση της ελληνομάθειας.
Η Ελληνική Ένωση Μασσαλίας και Περιχώρων (με έτος ίδρυσης το 1944) συσπειρώνει τους Έλληνες και τους Φιλέλληνες με στόχο την προβολή του Ελληνισμού στη Μασσαλία και την περιοχή της με πολιτιστικές και εορταστικές δράσεις, αλλά και με τον εορτασμό των ελληνικών εθνικών εορτών της 28ης Οκτωβρίου και της 25 ης Μαρτίου.
Για να απαντήσω λοιπόν στον τίτλο του άρθρου σας
"Μασσαλία: Αναζητώντας το ελληνικό στοιχείο" Υπάρχουν πάρα πολλά ελληνικά στοιχεία στη Μασσαλία.
Η ελληνική ψυχή ζει στη Μασσαλία.
Ευχόμαστε το άρθρο σας να φέρει πολλούς Έλληνες επισκέπτες στη Μασσαλία Και σας ευχαριστώ και πάλι για την προβολή της πόλης μας.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. The Secretary reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening cooperation between the United States and EU and addressing shared challenges. Secretary Blinken underscored the importance of coordinating actions in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and reiterated any further Russian aggression toward Ukraine would result in a severe response. They also discussed concerns about political pressure and economic coercion against Lithuania by the People’s Republic of China.

Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov today in Geneva. Deputy Secretary Sherman was accompanied by Lt. Gen. James Mingus, Director of Operations, Joint Staff, and Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Defense Col. Gen. Aleksandr Fomin. The Deputy Secretary and Deputy Foreign Minister discussed the bilateral topics both sides would address during the extraordinary meeting of the Strategic Stability Dialogue (SSD) January 10. The Deputy Secretary stressed the United States’ commitment to the international principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the freedom of sovereign nations to choose their own alliances. The Deputy Secretary affirmed that the United States would welcome genuine progress through diplomacy. The United States will discuss certain bilateral issues with Russia at the SSD, but will not discuss European security without our European Allies and partners. The Deputy Secretary underscored that discussion of certain subjects would be reserved for the NATO-Russia Council meeting in Brussels on January 12 and the OSCE Permanent Council meeting in Vienna on January 13.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today by phone with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. Noting shared concerns regarding Russia’s ongoing and unprovoked military build-up in and around Ukraine, the Secretary and Foreign Minister discussed outcomes and next steps following the U.S.-Russia Strategic Stability Dialogue in Geneva and in advance of the NATO-Russia Council meeting in Brussels tomorrow. Secretary Blinken also shared expectations for the January 13 OSCE Permanent Council meeting in Vienna. The text of the following statement was released by the Governments of the United States of America, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the European Union on the occasion of Serbia’s January 16 National Referendum.

Begin Text:

France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union welcome Serbia’s January 16 referendum on constitutional changes as a key step to strengthen the independence of the judiciary and to enhance the transparency and effectiveness of the country’s rule of law institutions. We believe that these reforms are a step forward towards Serbia’s alignment with European standards and will support Serbia’s EU accession process.

We have encouraged all Serbian citizens to take part in the referendum, and believe it is important for eligible voters everywhere to be able to vote in elections and referenda. We note with regret that the Kosovo government has not allowed the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to collect ballots of eligible voters living in Kosovo for the upcoming referendum in accordance with past practice. We call on the Kosovo government to allow Serbs in Kosovo to exercise their right to vote in elections and electoral processes in accordance with this established practice.

We call upon the governments of Kosovo and Serbia to refrain from actions and rhetoric that increase tensions, and to engage constructively in the EU-facilitated Dialogue. It is important that both governments achieve progress towards a comprehensive agreement that unlocks the EU perspective and increases regional stability.

Deputy Secretary Wendy Sherman spoke today with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid to discuss Russia’s continued aggression towards Ukraine and using the OSCE as a platform to deescalate tensions. They welcomed the Polish Chairman-in-Office Zbigniew Rau’s proposal to launch a revitalized European security dialogue at the OSCE. This dialogue will enable all 57 OSCE participating States to discuss urgent issues affecting European security, such as Russia’s continued and unprovoked military build-up on Ukraine’s borders. The Deputy Secretary and OSCE Secretary General agreed the OSCE is a critical venue to reduce insecurity and build trust in the region.
