TTB Establishes the Upper Cumberland American Viticultural Area This week we formally established the Upper Cumberland American Viticultural Area (AVA). This approximately 2,186,689-acre AVA is located in Middle Tennessee. The Upper Cumberland AVA is not located within, nor does it contain, any established AVA. See Docket No. TTB–2023–0006 on Regulations.gov for all documents and public comments related to this rulemaking. Bottlers who wish to label their wines with this new AVA as an appellation of origin must obtain a new Certificate of Label Approval (COLA) for the label, even if the currently approved label already contains another AVA appellation of origin. Please do not submit COLA applications for labels using the new AVA until June 14, 2024, the effective date of this final rule. Statement by the Prime Minister on Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day:

“Fifteen years ago, the quarter-century-long armed conflict in Sri Lanka came to an end. Tens of thousands of Tamils tragically lost their lives, including at the massacre in Mullivaikal. To this day, many more remain missing, injured, or displaced. Today, we honour the victims, survivors, and their loved ones, who live with the lasting pain caused by this senseless violence.

“Two years ago, Canada’s Parliament unanimously voted to recognize May 18 as Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day. We will always advocate for justice and accountability for the crimes committed during the conflict, as well as for the hardships faced by all in Sri Lanka. In 2023, we imposed sanctions against four former Sri Lankan government officials in response to their violations of human rights in the country during the armed conflict.

Human Capital Investment: Key in Navigating the Shift from Informal to Formal Economy

Education and capacity building are key factors in reducing informality.
In order to ensure that all economic sectors may benefit from greater trade, inclusive trade works to reduce inequality, promote shared prosperity, and facilitate the transition to the formal economy.

In this sense, APEC can significantly contribute to the advancement of sustainable and inclusive trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region by promoting trade policies and supporting technical cooperation and capacity building that value inclusivity, foster the transition to the formal economy, and remove trade barriers.

This is captured in the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 and the Aotearoa Plan of Action, which seek to foster quality growth that brings palpable benefits and greater health and wellbeing to all, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), women, and others with untapped economic potential. Both establish that APEC economies should take collective action to “promote ecosystems that support MSMEs” and “promote MSMEs’ access to finance, global markets, and global value chains as well as assisting in building their capacity to effectively participate in the wider economy.”

‍Άρθρο Ευάγγελου Βενιζέλου στην εφημερίδα ΤΑ ΝΕΑ Σαββατοκύριακο "Η καμπύλη της Μεταπολίτευσης"
Το συνέδριο του Κύκλου Ιδεών με θέμα «Η καμπύλη της Μεταπολίτευσης» που διεξήχθη από τις 12 έως τις 14 Μαΐου στην Αθήνα, στο ξενοδοχείο «Μεγάλη Βρεταννία» που γιορτάζει τη δική του επέτειο των 150 ετών λειτουργίας, ήταν ένα συνέδριο στραμμένο στα μεγάλα διλήμματα του μέλλοντος, η απάντηση στα οποία προϋποθέτει τη συστηματική και επιμονή διερεύνηση της διαδρομής και της κατάστασής μας. Για τον λόγο αυτό το συνέδριο είχε ουσιαστικά ως πρώτο ομιλητή την ίδια την ελληνική κοινωνία, ακριβέστερα την κοινή γνώμη που εκφράστηκε μέσω της έρευνας της Metron Analysis απαντώντας σε όλα τα ερωτήματα που απασχόλησαν τους θεματικούς κύκλους του συνεδρίου στους οποίους μετείχαν περίπου ογδόντα εισηγητές/ τριες και συντονιστές/ τριες.


Η αμφισημία του όρου «μεταπολίτευση» ήταν η αφετηρία της συζήτησης αλλά αποσαφηνίστηκε εξαρχής ότι μας απασχολεί η Μεταπολίτευση εν στενή εννοία ως στιγμή ή ως περιορισμένη περίοδος μετάβασης από τη δικτατορία στην κοινοβουλευτική και μάλιστα προεδρευόμενη και άρα αβασίλευτη δημοκρατία και η Μεταπολίτευση εν ευρεία εννοία ως περίοδος πενήντα πλέον ετών από την πτώση της δικτατορίας έως σήμερα. Η εσωτερική περιοδολόγηση της πεντηκονταετίας με βάση τις τομές αφενός
