$10 million ABCmouse settlement: Avoiding auto-renewal traps By Andrew Smith, Director, FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection Online subscription services can be a convenience for consumers and a boon for business – especially now that so many people are shopping from home. But under the law, companies have an obligation to explain the details of the deal up front, clearly disclose any automatic renewal terms, get consumers’ express consent before billing, and offer simple ways to cancel. The FTC just announced a $10 million settlement with online learning company ABCmouse for allegedly violating those established consumer protection principles. The following Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN) reports were released on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.  Australia: Food Service - Hotel Restaurant Institutional The Australian consumer food service industry is valued at A$59 billion. Australia’s commercial food service sector is a competitive market and with an aging population, the institutional food service sector (aged care, hospitals, etc.) continues to grow. Most industry operators in the hotel and resort sector derive a significant portion of revenue from the sale of meals and beverages prepared at onsite restaurants. Information on the effects of government reaction to COVID-19, and the effects of the restrictions introduced, are included throughout the report.  Brazil: Cotton and Products Update  Post forecasts 2020/21 cotton area planted at 1.5 million hectares (ha), down 10 percent from the current harvest. Post’s forecast is mostly based on the tepid outlook for global consumption, and consequently low prices. In addition, the majority of cotton growers in Brazil have profitable alternative crops, such as soybeans or corn. The Post forecast for 2020/21 cotton production is 12.1 million bales. For the 2019/20 season, Post estimates area harvested at 1.69 million ha, and production at 13.4 million bales, with output higher than initially envisioned due to favorable weather. While domestic consumption is expected to plummet amid the hard-hitting coronavirus pandemic, exports will remain strong. Post forecasts 2020/21 MY exports at 9 million bales, nearly level when compared to the current season export estimate of 8.9 million bales. Exports are buffered by weak domestic currency, making Brazilian commodities more competitive internationally. European Union: Oilseeds and Products Update  EU oilseeds production in MY 2020/21 is characterized by the lowest rapeseed production in more than a decade. Total major oilseeds (rapeseed, sunflower, soybeans) production is forecast to decline by about 1.5 percent year-on-year. The Covid-19 pandemic and its lockdown measures are expected to have a negative impact on oilseeds meal use in feed ratios due to lower meat consumption. India: FSSAI Reinstitutes Food Additives and Food Standards Amendment Regulation in Meat and Meat Products On August 17, 2020, the Government of India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority of India re-instituted its draft Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulation 2020, relating to meat and meat products. This amendment required an alignment with the relevant standards for feeds/feed materials used for meat and milk producing animals established by the Bureau of Indian Standards. The earlier compliance date of July 28, 2020 has now been extended until January 1, 2021. Ukraine: Poultry and Products Annual The Ukrainian chicken meat industry recently completed a major production expansion cycle in 2019. Additionally, smaller producers are expected to launch new facilities in 2020/21. However, a significant decrease in prices for Ukrainian chicken meat both domestically and on the world market, together with the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian flu (H5N1) in January 2020, resulted in a slowdown in both production and exports. Ukrainian exports are expected to catch up by the end of 2020. Production in 2020 is expected to ultimately exceed 2019 levels, largely due to more efficient facility utilization. Ukraine’s exports to the EU will be lower in 2020 due to new quota limits and the H5N1 flu outbreak. Markets in the Middle East became Ukraine’ largest chicken meat consumer. Ukraine: Ukraine Introduces Export Caps for Wheat and Rye Ukraine introduced export caps for wheat at 17.5 million metric tons (MMT) and for rye at one thousand (MT) until the end of marketing year (MY)2020/21. BMW, Renault and Toyota are also offering electric vehicles for sale in the UAE, and General Motors (GM) is reportedly considering launching its Bolt model in the country in Q4-18. U.S. manufacturers looking to do business in the region may find it worth noting that apart from EV’s, the U.A.E. government encourages autonomous vehicle technology, research and development into driverless vehicles and other smart, green and environment friendly technologies, such as, alternate fuel vehicles, including Hybrid and Hydrogen vehicles.  Dubai moved a step closer during 2018 to become one of the most attractive markets for the introduction of technologies relating to the 'Internet of Things' (IoT). The emirate aims to meet its stated goal of autonomous vehicles accounting for 25% of all its transportation needs by 2030. Poland Poland’s automotive industry is one of the most important manufacturing sectors in Poland, accounting for 11.1 % the total value of the country’s production, and is second only to the food industry.  The Polish government adopted an Act on electromobility and alternative fuels and is waiting for final EU approval. Poland has a target of creating 6000 charging stations by the end of 2020 and support 1 million electric cars on Polish roads by 2025.  In January 2020, the Polish government enacted regulations  supporting the construction of e-car charging stations and allowed for subsidy payments of up to 30%, with a 18,750 PLN maximum limit, for the purchase of electric cars by companies. Αναστολή των εκδηλώσεων του Δήμου Μαραθώνος μέχρι τις 30 Σεπτεμβρίου 2020



Συνεδρίασε σήμερα,Δευτέρα 31 Αυγούστου 2020, η Επιτροπή Διαχείρισης Κρίσεων του Δήμου Μαραθώνος, υπό τον Δήμαρχο κ. Στέργιο Τσίρκα.

Με γνώμονα πάντοτε τη διαφύλαξη της δημόσιας υγείας, αποφασίστηκε η συνέχιση της αναστολής των εκδηλώσεων του Δήμου και των Νομικών του Προσώπων μέχρι τις 30 Σεπτεμβρίου 2020.

Ενημερώνουμε επίσης ότι ο Δήμος μας παραμένει σε διαρκή επικοινωνία με την ΚΕΔΕ που έχει αναλάβει την προμήθεια υλικών και μέσων προστασίας (μάσκες, αντισηπτικά, κ.λπ.), σύμφωνα και με τις αποφάσεις της Κυβέρνησης, ενώ έχει προγραμματιστεί και η απολύμανση των σχολείων προ της έναρξης της νέας σχολικής χρονιάς, σε αναμονή των ανακοινώσεων των αρμόδιων Υπουργείων.

Επισημαίνουμε τέλος, την ανάγκη όλοι οι τοπικοί φορείς, οι επιχειρήσεις και οι συμπολίτες μας, να συνεχίσουν να τηρούν με τη μέγιστη προσοχή τις ισχύουσες οδηγίες για την αποφυγή επέκτασης του νέου κορωναϊού.

The only programme focusing exclusively on cultural and creative activities and enterprises, it falls under the 'Cohesion and values' heading of the 2021-2027 multiannual financial framework. The existing programme focuses on the economic dimension of the cultural sector and its contribution to job creation and economic growth. Some stakeholders have voiced concern at taking such a strongly economic approach to culture. Under the proposed programme, the economic dimension is one axis alongside the social dimension, and culture's contribution to international relations. The proposed framework for cultural policy therefore highlights not only the economic dimension of the cultural and creative sectors, but also the role of culture in social cohesion and its relation to creative and artistic freedom and diversity, and freedom and plurality of media. Both Parliament and Council have agreed positions on the proposal, and trilogue negotiations started in autumn 2019 with a view to finding agreement before Council’s first reading. Fourth edition. The package includes a proposal for the new generation of European territorial cooperation (ETC) programmes, commonly referred to as 'Interreg'. The proposed regulation would bring significant changes to the current architecture of ETC, with the reshaping of the three traditional cooperation strands (i.e. cross-border, transnational and interregional cooperation) and the creation of two new components, one dedicated to outermost regions, the other to interregional cooperation on innovation. Another major novelty is the incorporation of cooperation with countries other than EU Member States. The proposal is being examined simultaneously by the Council and the European Parliament. In Parliament, the Committee on Regional Development (REGI) is responsible for the file. Parliament adopted its legislative resolution on the proposal at first reading on 26 March 2019, enabling trilogue negotiations to get under way with the Council. A large amount of information accompanies this movement, exchanged mostly in paper format. Yet the digitalisation of information exchange could make the transport of goods much more efficient and reliable, and yield significant savings. As one way to speed up the digitalisation of freight transport, the European Commission adopted a proposal for a regulation on electronic freight transport information on 17 May 2018. The aim of this regulation is to provide for a fully digital and harmonised environment for information exchanges between transport operators and authorities. The legislative proposal is part of the Commission's third 'Europe on the Move' package, which is designed to complete its agenda for the modernisation of mobility. The European Parliament adopted its position on the proposal on 12 March 2019. The Council, on its side, reached a general approach on this proposal on 6 June 2019. The Council and Parliament reached a provisional agreement on the proposal on 26 November 2019. The Council adopted the text at first reading on 7 April 2020, and the Parliament approved it at second reading on 8 July. The final act was published in the Official Journal on 31 July 2020. AHEPA Applauds Administration's Partial Lifting of Arms Prohibition on Cyprus AHEPA applauds the Trump administration’s decision to waive the limitations placed on the transfer of non-lethal arms equipment to the Republic of Cyprus for one year, announced Supreme President George G. Horiates. “We commend the Trump administration for recognizing it is in the best interest of the United States to take this action that further enhances relations between the United States and the Republic of Cyprus,” Supreme President George G. Horiates said. “The United States recognizes the Republic of Cyprus as a strategic partner, especially in combating terrorism and providing regional stability, and this partial lifting of the prohibition of arms is the next logical step in the relationship’s progression that began with 2018’s Statement of Intent agreement.” He added, “The importance and significance of this decision by the United States at a time when tensions in the Aegean are escalated cannot be understated.” In April, Supreme President Horiates wrote to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo requesting him to exercise his authority granted by Executive Order to waive the limitations placed on the Republic of Cyprus by U.S. law, thus allowing for the transfer of defense articles. Supreme President Horiates also thanked members of Congress, especially Senator Robert Menendez, for championing the lifting of the arms prohibition on the Republic of Cyprus on Capitol Hill, and he commended the community for its advocacy. "Together, we are making a difference with our civic engagement," Horiates said.
