Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia to Grow at Fastest Pace in a Decade (Photo: Mlenny/iStock by Getty Images) By Amine Mati and Sidra Rehman Saudi Arabia is likely to be one of the world’s fastest-growing economies this year as sweeping pro-business reforms and a sharp rise in oil prices and production power recovery from a­ pandemic-induced recession in 2020. Gross domestic product is expected to expand by 7.6 percent, the fastest growth in almost a decade, according to our recent Article IV consultation report. Despite higher prices for imported commodities, inflation will remain contained at 2.8 percent in 2022 as the central bank tightens policy in line with the US Federal Reserve. Public finances and the external position will strengthen substantially thanks to increased non-oil revenue and higher proceeds from oil exports. Reserve buffers will remain ample. Maintaining control of public spending despite higher oil proceeds will be important, but there is scope for more targeted social spending. Improvements in tax policy and revenue administration to raise more taxes from non-oil activities would help support fiscal consolidation.

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the 80th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid:

“Today, we remember the brave Canadians who took part in the Dieppe Raid, one of the most difficult and tragic days of the Second World War for our country.

“On August 19, 1942, nearly 5,000 Canadian soldiers, along with their British and American allies, approached the beaches of and around Dieppe, in occupied France. Their objective was to test the enemy’s defences, damage its port facilities, and gather important intelligence to help defeat Nazi Germany.

“Unfortunately, the Canadian soldiers who came ashore were met with sustained enemy fire, and only a few small groups of Canadians managed to reach the streets of Dieppe. In the air, the Royal Canadian Air Force and the British Royal Air Force continued the offensive, conducting one of the fiercest air battles of the Second World War. Forced to retreat, the Allies returned to Britain after nine hours of intense fighting.

“During the course of this operation, many Canadian soldiers were wounded, 916 were killed, and 1,946 were taken as prisoners of war. Most of them remained captive until the end of the war in Europe, almost three years later. Despite this devastating setback, Canadian and Allied soldiers showed exceptional heroism, resilience, and courage. Invaluable lessons were learned from the Dieppe Raid and other amphibious assaults – lessons that proved essential in planning further attacks, including on D-Day and during the Battle of Normandy. The Dieppe Raid was instrumental in leading the Allies to victory over Nazi Germany and, as a result, in changing the course of history.

“On this day, we pay tribute to the thousands of Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice at Dieppe. I invite everyone to take part in a commemorative event to mark this solemn anniversary, and to honour the memory of those who have defended our values of peace, freedom, and justice.

Statement by the Prime Minister on World Humanitarian Day

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on World Humanitarian Day:

“Today, on World Humanitarian Day, we honour all the workers who selflessly put the needs of others before their own to deliver health care, food, water, and shelter to those who need it most.

“These dedicated volunteers and professionals inspire us with their courage as they brave armed conflict, violence, and natural disasters to provide relief and hope to the world’s most vulnerable. Sadly, the number of people who need humanitarian assistance has more than tripled over the last decade, and the United Nations estimates that over 300 million people around the world will require humanitarian assistance this year alone.

“This year’s theme for World Humanitarian Day – #ItTakesAVillage – reminds us that we all have a part to play in supporting those who need it. Canada has a proud tradition of supporting experienced humanitarian partners worldwide, and we continue to stand ready to provide assistance – in particular to women and girls, who are disproportionately affected by the pandemic and armed conflicts around the world. Building on our Feminist International Assistance Policy, we will continue to ensure that the voices of women and girls remain at the centre of the government’s efforts to support humanitarian responses around the world.

“As Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable aggression against Ukraine continues, Canada is helping people impacted by the conflict. Since the beginning of the invasion, we have committed $320 million to supply medical aid, food, shelter, and more to address the needs of displaced and vulnerable populations in Ukraine and across the region. In June, Canada also committed additional funding to help meet the needs of those most affected by the global food security crisis exacerbated by the conflict. This builds on the $514.5 million already allocated globally in 2022 for emergency food and nutrition assistance.

“In many parts of the world, the safety and security of humanitarian workers, particularly local staff, are at great risk as they face increasing attacks, violence, and threats, in contravention of international law and humanitarian principles. Canada will continue to advocate for their safety, their security, and their ability to deliver aid to those most in need.

Prime Minister welcomes the Twenty-Ninth Annual Report on the Public Service of Canada

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today welcomed the Twenty-Ninth Annual Report on the Public Service of Canada, which was presented to him by the Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Federal Public Service, Janice Charette.

The report outlines the work of public servants over the past year to address ongoing and emerging crises. Public servants secured and distributed vaccines, launched the whole-of-government effort in response to the security situation in Afghanistan and Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine, and addressed the impacts of extreme weather events on communities across the country.

In these challenging times, the report emphasizes the need to continue supporting mental health and well-being in the workplace and confronting systemic racism, while advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within the Public Service. This includes ongoing efforts to advance the Call to Action on Anti-Racism, Equity, and Inclusion, which calls on leaders in the Public Service to support Indigenous, Black, and other racialized employees and voices, and to establish a sense of belonging and trust for all public servants.

The annual report also highlights some of the ways public servants have delivered for Canadians and references important opportunities for improvement moving forward. The agility, dedication, and creativity of public servants will continue to be critical in responding to the ever-evolving needs of Canadians.

Ανάρτηση Ευ. Βενιζέλου σχετικά με το πρωτοσέλιδο της εφημερίδας ΕΣΤΙΑ

 

Οφείλω καταρχάς να ευχαριστήσω τους ανθρώπους της εφημερίδας Εστία που διαβάζουν ενδελεχώς το βιβλίο μου «Εκδοχές Πολέμου 2009-2022» που έχει ως κορμό την αφήγησή μου για την οικονομική κρίση.

Σήμερα εστιάζουν στο κεφάλαιο του βιβλίου που αναφέρεται στο πώς επί των ημερών της κυβέρνησης Σαμαρά - Βενιζέλου, το 2014, ποινικοποιήθηκε η άρνηση των γενοκτονιών που έχουν αναγνωριστεί από την ελληνική Βουλή, χωρίς να υπάρξει κρίση στις ελληνοτουρκικές σχέσεις. Πρόκειται για την υπενθύμιση μιας διπλής επιτυχίας, καθώς και νομοθετήσαμε αυτό που επιβαλλόταν ιστορικά και το οποίο δεν είχε νομοθετηθεί από τις προηγούμενες ελληνικές κυβερνήσεις (για γνωστούς λόγους που θα έπρεπε να αναφέρει η εφημερίδα) και επιτύχαμε αυτό να μη προκαλέσει τουρκική αντίδραση. Δήλωσε τότε η κυβέρνηση - επισημαίνει η Εστία - ότι η νομοθετική αναφορά στις γενοκτονίες και η ποινικοποίηση της άρνησής τους έχει ιστορικό χαρακτήρα και δεν αφορά τη σημερινή Τουρκία. Πράγματι δήλωσε το προφανές. Όπως η αναγνώριση και η οικουμενική καταδίκη του Ολοκαυτώματος δεν συνιστά καταδίκη της σημερινής Γερμανίας. Το γεγονός δε ότι η Τουρκία δεν αντέδρασε προσδίδει ακόμη μεγαλύτερο ηθικό, ιστορικό και θεσμικό βάρος στη νομοθετική ρύθμιση του 2014 που καμία κυβέρνηση δεν έφερε πριν και δεν άλλαξε μετά.

Our countries also mark our 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, a strong partnership built on a shared commitments to the rule of law, protection of human rights, and economic prosperity. We appreciate Liechtenstein’s efforts to support Ukrainian refugees, hold Russia accountable for its brutal war on Ukraine, and counter money laundering. We also deeply value Liechtenstein’s commitment to multilateralism and good governance.

Infusing human behavior into epidemiological models is focus of new NSF-supported research projects

The U.S. National Science Foundation is investing more than $7.5 million in new research focused on empowering more reliable prediction of the spread of infectious diseases, the effects of mitigation measures and other critical aspects of national health crises. The funding will support eight interdisciplinary research projects aimed at incorporating the complexities of human behavior into epidemiological models.

Ο Πρωθυπουργός Κυριάκος Μητσοτάκης θα πραγματοποιήσει επίσημη επίσκεψη στο Κατάρ.

Στις 11:00 θα γίνει η τελετή υποδοχής του Πρωθυπουργού στο μέγαρο Amiri Diwan. Στις 11:15 θα πραγματοποιηθούν συνομιλίες μεταξύ των αντιπροσωπειών. Θα ακολουθήσει κατ’ ιδίαν συνάντηση του Πρωθυπουργού με τον Εμίρη του Κατάρ, Σεΐχη Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Στις 12:30 ο Κυριάκος Μητσοτάκης θα παρακαθήσει σε επίσημο γεύμα που παρατίθεται προς τιμήν του, στο Εθνικό Μουσείο Κατάρ.

ΔΥΠΑ-ΟΑΕΔ:έρχεται επίδομα μακροχρόνια ανέργων με μια προϋπόθεση

Οσοι είναι  μακροχρόνια άνεργοι άνω των 5 ετών, μετά απο πρόσκληση ΔΥΠΑ-ΟΑΕΔ πρέπει να συντάξουν Ψηφιακό Ατομικό Σχέδιο Δράσης με προσωπική παρουσία στα κατά τόπους υποκαταστήματα του Οργανισμού. Εφ΄όσον αυτό γίνει, θα λάβουν εφάπαξ επίδομα εργασίας 300 ευρώ.

Να θυμάστε οτι η εγγραφή στο Ψηφιακό Μητρώο ΔΥΠΑ γίνεται με αίτηση του ανέργου που αναζητά εργασία.

Εννοείται οτι δεν θα πρέπει να λαμβάνετε επίδομα άλλης μορφής.  

Ηλεκτρικό ρεύμα: Οι αυξημένες τιμές που ανακοίνωσαν οι πάροχοι για τον Σεπτέμβριο

Οι τιμές που δόθηκαν ενδεικτικά από προμηθευτές, σύμφωνα με το ΑΠΕ-ΜΠΕ, είναι:

-ΔΕΗ: 0,788 ευρώ ανά κιλοβατώρα για κατανάλωση έως 500 κιλοβατώρες το μήνα και 0,8 ευρώ για πάνω από 500 κιλοβατώρες. Η χρέωση για το νυχτερινό τιμολόγιο είναι 0,747 ευρώ. Πάγιο 3,5 ευρώ το μήνα.
-Protergia: 0,78213 ευρώ ανά κιλοβατώρα και 0,77855 για το νυχτερινό τιμολόγιο. Πάγιο 5 ευρώ το μήνα.
-Ήρων: 0,750 ευρώ ανά κιλοβατώρα και 0,6 με έκπτωση συνέπειας 20%. Πάγιο 3 ευρώ το μήνα.
-Elpedison: τα τιμολόγια ανάλογα με το πρόγραμμα κυμαίνονται από 1,0864 έως 1,1367 ευρώ ανά κιλοβατώρα ενώ προβλέπεται επιστροφή (loyalty pass) τον επόμενο μήνα η οποία για τον Αύγουστο καθορίστηκε σε 0,4 ευρώ ανά κιλοβατώρα.
-NRG: 0,748-0,768 ευρώ ανά κιλοβατώρα. Πάγιο 1,8-5 ευρώ το μήνα.

-Zenith: 0,687 – 0,697 ευρώ ανά κιλοβατώρα. Πάγιο 4-4,5 ευρώ ανά κιλοβατώρα.


Η τιμή της ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας στο Χρηματιστήριο διαμορφώνεται σήμερα σε υψηλά επίπεδα (377,72 ευρώ ανά μεγαβατώρα) παρά τη μειωμένη ζήτηση και την αυξημένη (20,9%) συμμετοχή του λιγνίτη στο ενεργειακό μείγμα...."

Ενέργειες ύστερα από τα περιστατικά θανάτωσης τριών αρκούδων στη Φλώρινα

19 ΑΥΓΟΥΣΤΟΥ, 2022

Τα περιστατικά παράνομης θανάτωσης τριών αρκούδων στην περιοχή της Φλώρινας τους τελευταίους δύο μήνες, διερευνούν οι Υπηρεσίες του Υπουργείου Περιβάλλοντος και Ενέργειας, ύστερα από εντολή του Υφυπουργού, Γιώργου Αμυρά.

Σύμφωνα με τα επίσημα στοιχεία της Διεύθυνσης Δασών Φλώρινας έχει γίνει η καταγραφή τριών περιστατικών:

 1^ο: Στις 21 Ιουνίου βρέθηκε νεκρή αρκούδα σε προχωρημένη σήψη εντός της κοίτης ποταμού στην περιοχή Τ.Κ. Αγραπιδιάς.

 2^ο: Στις 11 Αυγούστου βρέθηκε νεκρή αρκούδα στην περιοχή Τ.Κ. Αγραπιδιάς.

3^ο: Στις 12 Αυγούστου βρέθηκε νεκρή αρκούδα σε προχωρημένη σήψη εντός του ρέματος στην περιοχή της Τ.Κ. Σκλήθρου.

 Η Διεύθυνση Δασών Φλώρινας από την πρώτη στιγμή προχώρησε στις παρακάτω ενέργειες:

• Και στις τρεις περιπτώσεις έγινε αυτοψία στα σημεία από την Ομάδα Άμεσης Επέμβασης της Διεύθυνσης Δασών Φλώρινας, την Ομάδα Άμεσης Επέμβασης τουΑΡΚΤΟΥΡΟΥ και τον Δήμο Αμυνταίου.
• Αναμένονται τα αποτελέσματα των αυτοψιών της κτηνιάτρου του ΑΡΚΤΟΥΡΟΥ, Δρ. Σύλβιας Καλογεροπούλου, προκειμένου η υπηρεσία να προβεί στις απαραίτητες κατά τον νόμο ενέργειες, όπως τις αναγκαίες ανακριτικές πράξεις.
• Βρίσκεται σε άμεση συνεργασία με τον ΑΡΚΤΟΥΡΟ και την ΕΛ.ΑΣ. για την αρτιότερη διερεύνηση της υπόθεσης.

 Ο Υφυπουργός Περιβάλλοντος και Ενέργειας Γιώργος Αμυράς, δήλωσε: «Πρόκειται για ένα αποτρόπαιο έγκλημα κατά της βιοποικιλότητας. Οι υπηρεσίες του Υπουργείου βρίσκονται σε άμεση συνεργασία με την ΕΛ.ΑΣ. για τη διαλεύκανση των υποθέσεων. Θα κάνουμε ό,τι περνάει από το χέρι μας για να προστατεύσουμε τον πληθυσμό του θηλαστικού, πάντοτε σε συνεργασία με τον ΑΡΚΤΟΥΡΟ».

Ο γενικός διευθυντής του ΑΡΚΤΟΥΡΟΥ, Δρ. Αλέξανδρος Καραμανλίδης, δήλωσε: «Η μοναδική βιοποικιλότητα της Ελλάδας είναι κοινό αγαθό όλων των Ελλήνων και είναι υποχρέωση όλων μας να την προστατέψουμε! Σε σχέση με το ειδεχθές έγκλημα στη Φλώρινα και την προστασία της καφέ αρκούδας στην Ελλάδα γενικότερα ο ΑΡΚΤΟΥΡΟΣ ζητάει: α) την άμεση διαλεύκανση της υπόθεσης και την παραδειγματική τιμωρία του ένοχου, β) την άμεση θεσμοθέτηση του Εθνικού Σχεδίου Δράσης για την καφέ αρκούδα, γ) την πλήρη και αποτελεσματική εφαρμογή της ΚΥΑ για την προσέγγιση αρκούδων σε κατοικημένες περιοχές. Για να παραδώσουμε στα παιδιά μας έναν τόπο καλύτερο από ότι τον βρήκαμε!».

Press material Sunday 21 August 2022   ● Council of the EU   21/08/2022 12:06 | Press release | International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence based on Religion or Belief (22 August 2022): Declaration by the High Representative on behalf of the EU   On the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence based on Religion or Belief, the EU stands in solidarity with all victims of persecution, wherever they may be. In these times of armed conflicts and humanitarian crises across the globe, individuals, including those belonging to minority groups, continue to be discriminated against, persecuted targeted, killed, detained, expelled or forcefully displaced because of their religion or for holding humanists and /or atheist beliefs. Today is an opportunity to highlight their situation. The EU stresses the importance of ensuring the protection of religious heritage sites and places of worship, especially when groups of people gathered in these places face threats. We strongly condemn all acts of unlawful destruction of cultural heritage, which are often committed during or in the aftermath of armed conflict around the world, or as a result of terrorist attacks, and urge all parties to armed conflicts to refrain from any unlawful military use or targeting of cultural property. Religion cannot be used to justify human rights violations and abuses or to fuel violence. No matter where, what or why, violence, discrimination and intimidation on the grounds of religion or belief has to stop immediately. All States should uphold freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) in line with international human rights law and in particular the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. Unlawful limitations should be lifted; laws criminalising apostasy and abuse of blasphemy laws must be repealed; incitement to violence or hatred, forced conversions, online and offline smear campaigns and hate speech including against persons belonging to religious or belief minorities must come to an end. We also reiterate that criticism or beliefs, ideas, religious leaders or practices should not be prohibited or criminally sanctioned. The EU reaffirms that freedom of religion or belief and freedom of expression are interdependent, interrelated and mutually reinforcing rights. The EU protects and promotes freedom of religion or belief in all circumstances. We speak out against persecution and we include victims of religious harassment in peace-building, conflict resolution and transitional justice processes. We will continue to provide emergency support for human rights defenders, in particular those that defend freedom of religion or belief including through our ProtectDefenders.eu mechanism. In our mediation efforts, we call on all parties involved in armed conflicts around the world to guarantee full, unhindered and unconditional access to humanitarian actors providing assistance to persons belonging to religious or belief minority groups. We encourage interreligious, interfaith and intercultural dialogue as a driver of mutual understanding, respect for diversity, peaceful coexistence and inclusive development. As we mark the 30th anniversary of the 1992 UN Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities, action in multilateral fora is essential. The EU continues to promote freedom of religion or belief within the United Nations and other international organisations. The EU will support and engage actively with the recently appointed UN Special Rapporteur. Today our message is simple and clear: Every person should be guaranteed their right to have, not to have, to choose or change, to practice and manifest a religious or belief and to be free from discrimination and coercion. Victims of persecution and discrimination must not be silenced and those responsible must be held accountable.
