PRESS European Council      10/7/2018  Remarks by President Donald Tusk on EU-NATO cooperation We have just signed a joint EU-NATO declaration, which brings the cooperation between the European Union and NATO to the next level. The aim is clear. We want to protect European citizens with all possible means available, and there is no better partner than NATO. That is why we have agreed today to strengthen EU-NATO ties in crucially important areas. They include improving the military mobility of troops and equipment, common preparedness for cyber and hybrid attacks, fighting terrorism and stopping migrant smugglers in the Mediterranean. The fullest possible involvement in our activities of EU Member States that are not NATO members will be encouraged and facilitated in an all-inclusive, non-discriminatory manner, without any artificial obstacles. Speaking on the eve of the NATO summit here in Brussels, I would like to address President Trump directly, who for a long time now has been criticising Europe almost daily for, in his view, insufficient contributions to the common defence capabilities, and for living off the US. Dear President Trump: America does not have, and will not have a better ally than Europe. Today Europeans spend on defence many times more than Russia, and as much as China. And I think you can have no doubt, Mr President, that this is an investment in common American and European defence and security. Which can't be said with confidence about Russian or Chinese spending. I would therefore have two remarks here. First of all, dear America, appreciate your allies, after all you don't have that many. And, dear Europe, spend more on your defence, because everyone respects an ally that is well-prepared and equipped. Money is important, but genuine solidarity is even more important. Speaking about solidarity, I want to dispel the American President's argument, which says that the US alone protects Europe against our enemies, and that the US is almost alone in this struggle. Europe was first to respond on a large scale when the US was attacked, and called for solidarity after 9/11. European soldiers have been fighting shoulder-to-shoulder with American soldiers in Afghanistan. 870 brave European men and women sacrificed their lives, including 40 soldiers from my homeland Poland. Dear Mr President, please remember about this tomorrow, when we meet at the NATO summit, but above all when you meet president Putin in Helsinki. It is always worth knowing: who is your strategic friend? And who is your strategic problem? European Council      9/7/2018  Remarks by President Donald Tusk after the EU-Ukraine summit We have just finished the 20th EU-Ukraine Summit, which was a good moment to re-affirm the strong partnership and friendship between the European Union and Ukraine and to discuss how to take it further. Our partnership is built on solid foundations. Our Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area entered fully into force a year ago. The result is clear and positive. And Ukraine's economy is recovering with renewed positive growth. Likewise on visa-free travel. Half a year after visa liberalisation entered into force, more than half a million Ukrainians have made use of this new opportunity. Today we reaffirmed our commitment to advancing the political association and economic integration of Ukraine with the European Union on the basis of our common values of democracy, the rule of law and human rights. The same values that people once fought for on the Maidan and millions of Ukrainians have been fighting for since. The European Union recognises the substantial progress Ukraine has made in its reform process. In the past year the Government has taken on a number of reforms, such as pensions and health care, that will be difficult in the short-term but make Ukraine stronger in the long-term. We welcome the recent establishment of the High Anti-Corruption Court and look forward to the swift adoption of the amendments necessary to make it function properly. Anti-corruption reforms must remain high on the agenda. The EU continues its unwavering support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence. Our non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol remains firm and our visa ban list has been expanded following the conduct of Russian Presidential elections on the peninsula and the building of the Kerch bridge without Ukraine's consent. We continue to demand the full implementation of the Minsk agreements, underlining Russia's responsibility for the war in eastern Ukraine. A few days ago, the EU leaders agreed unanimously to prolong - once again - our economic sanctions against Russia by another six months. Since 2014, the United Nations has recorded more than 10,250 people killed ad 24,600 injured so far in this conflict. This is happening in Europe. Today we also remembered the tragic downing of flight MH-17, just like European leaders did two weeks ago in Brussels. We pay tribute to the victims, call on Russia to accept its responsibility and look forward to the effective prosecution of those responsible for this tragedy. Let me conclude by recalling that our Summit last year was held on the birthday of the illegally imprisoned Ukrainian film maker and writer Oleh Sentsov. I am sorry to say that he remains in prison and on hunger strike for more than 50 days. Let me end with a renewed call for his release and for the release of all those illegally detained in Crimea and in Russia. The independence of Ukraine and the security of Poland and the whole region are dependent to a great extent on the relationship between Kiev and Warsaw. The recent tensions demonstrate that not everyone has done their history homework. Only full solidarity between Ukraine and Poland can save us from a repeat of tragic history in future. I call on the authorities in both countries for a new approach to the question of our relations and positive thinking. Only our adversaries or political fools would want to see conflict between us. Our next Supreme Court justice

Justice Anthony M. Kennedy announced on June 27 that he would retire from the U.S. Supreme Court at the end of this month. Tonight, President Trump will be joined by Vice President Mike Pence and senior leaders from Congress as he announces his nominee to be our Nation’s 114th Supreme Court Justice.

In his first year, President Trump appointed a record number of Federal judges, each of whom is standing up for our rights. That record includes the confirmation of Justice Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court last year. In just a little more than a year on the bench, Justice Gorsuch has proven to be a crucial voice for restoring Constitutional principles to our government.

By appointing rule-of-law judges, President Trump has reshaped the judiciary. That work goes hand-in-hand with the President’s program to reduce the size and scope of government, which includes signing the largest tax cuts in history, implementing unprecedented regulatory reform, and promoting individual liberties and religious freedoms.

The President’s message to those defending our borders

On Friday, Vice President Pence visited U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Headquarters to deliver a message from President Trump. “I bring greetings this morning from a great champion of law and order. And as he reminded and wanted me to convey today, a leader who stands without apology with the men and women of ICE and law enforcement at every level.”

In recent weeks, leading Democrats have called for the abolition of ICE. “In this White House, let me be clear: We are with you 100 percent,” the Vice President said. Eliminating ICE would grind immigration enforcement to a halt, with devastating consequences for public safety. These calls are an insult to the heroic law enforcement officers who protect us from drug dealers, gang members, and other criminals that exploit our porous immigration laws.

What to know about Judge Brett Kavanaugh

“A judge’s job is to interpret the law, not to make the law or make policy,” writes Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump’s nominee to succeed Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court. “Don’t make up new constitutional rights that are not in the text of the Constitution. Don’t shy away from enforcing constitutional rights that are in the text.”

Judge Kavanaugh has served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since 2006, authoring more than 300 opinions—including 11 that have been affirmed by the Supreme Court. A graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School, Judge Kavanaugh has clerked on the Supreme Court and on the Third and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals.

“In keeping with President Reagan’s legacy, I do not ask about a nominee’s personal opinions,” President Trump said last night. “What matters is not a judge’s political views, but whether they can set aside those views to do what the law and the Constitution require. I am pleased to say that I have found, without doubt, such a person.”

‘A beautiful moment’ in Thailand

The world received good news from Thailand this morning. After being stranded in a cave for more than two weeks, 12 young boys and their soccer coach were successfully rescued in a difficult mission. “On behalf of the United States, congratulations to the Thai Navy SEALs and all on the successful rescue,” President Trump tweeted.

American personnel helped stage equipment, prepared the first three chambers of the cave system for safe passage, assisted in transporting the soccer team evacuees through the cave system, and are providing medical personnel and other technical assistance as needed. U.S. coordination with the Thai military, Thai government, and other entities was extremely positive and effective, according to Department of Defense officials.

Today, the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, met with Raimonds Vējonis, President of Latvia.  The leaders discussed issues of mutual interest including their commitment to regional defence and security, the upcoming NATO Summit and Canada’s contribution to NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence in Latvia.

Other issues of security were also discussed between the Prime Minister and the President including cyber security, hybrid warfare and foreign interference.

Prime Minister Trudeau underlined Canada’s positive bilateral relationship with Latvia and congratulated the President on Latvia’s Centenary, marking 100 years since becoming an independent state.

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with Māris Kučinskis, Prime Minister of Latvia.

Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Kučinskis discussed the positive bilateral relationship between Canada and Latvia, including through the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and Latvia’s support for the Canadian Armed Forces currently deployed to Latvia as part of NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence. They also discussed the rise of antidemocratic forces and regional issues‎. 

Prime Minister Trudeau also congratulated Prime Minister Kučinskis on Latvia’s Centenary this year, marking 100 years since Latvia became an independent state.

Prime Minister concludes successful visit to Latvia

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today concluded a successful visit to Latvia. The Prime Minister’s visit was an opportunity to meet with members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) deployed on Operation REASSURANCE, reaffirm Canada’s commitment to the NATO Alliance and trans-Atlantic security, and deepen the strong ties between Canada and Latvia.

While in Latvia, Prime Minister Trudeau visited the Canadian-led multinational NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) battlegroup Latvia and met with CAF members and the seven other Allied nations that make up the battlegroup. He saw firsthand the dedication and professionalism of CAF members and thanked them for their service. The Prime Minister toured the Ādaži Military Base, accompanied by Latvian Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis, as well as Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chrystia Freeland, and Canada’s Minister of Defence, Harjit Singh Sajjan and General Jonathan Vance.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Trudeau met with Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis and President Raimonds Vējonis. They highlighted NATO’s important contribution to security and stability in Eastern and Central Europe, and discussed how Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is opening doors for people and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Prime Minister announced that Canada will renew its contribution to NATO’s eFP through Operation REASSURANCE for another four years, from April 2019 to March 2023. Canada will continue to lead NATO’s eFP battlegroup Latvia as the Framework Nation, and will also increase the number of CAF members deployed to Latvia from 455 to 540.

Canada’s contribution to NATO under Operation REASSURANCE will continue to include air surveillance, air policing, training, and maritime operations, in addition to the land forces deployed to Latvia.

Prime Minister Trudeau also participated in a flower laying ceremony in Riga at the Freedom Monument, a memorial honoring the soldiers that lost their lives during the Latvian War of Independence.

The Prime Minister will now travel to Belgium to attend the NATO Summit.

Tonight, President Donald J. Trump announced his intent to nominate Judge BRETT M. KAVANAUGH of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to fill the Supreme Court vacancy created by Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement.

The nomination of Judge Kavanaugh comes after a selection process marked by a historic degree of transparency, including the President’s public disclosure of a list of 25 highly qualified potential nominees for the Supreme Court.

Η Βρετανίδα τουρίστρια στη Ζάκυνθο είχε χάσει τον προσανατολισμό της και ζήτησε οδηγίες για να επιστρέψει στο ξενοδοχείο της. Ομως, για κακή της τύχη έπεσε σε Πακιστανό, ο οποίος την οδήγησε «σε παρακείμενο παράπηγμα όπου έμενε με ομοεθνείς, τους οποίους και προφανώς ενημέρωσε τηλεφωνικά, καθόσον, όπως κατήγγειλε η Βρετανίδα, την περίμεναν γυμνοί. Στην προσπάθειά τους να της αφαιρέσουν τα ρούχα και να αποπειραθούν να τη βιάσουν κατάφερε να τους σπρώξει και να φύγει τρέχοντας φτάνοντας στον κεντρικό δρόμο, οπότε βρήκε μπροστά της έναν οδηγό ταξί και του ζήτησε να ειδοποιήσει την Αστυνομία».

Γιατί κάποιος να μην μπορεί να επισκεφθεί την Ελλάδα και να πάρει μια γεύση πολυπολιτισμικότητας; Το μόνο πρόβλημα είναι πόσο γρήγορα θα μπορέσουμε να προσαρμοστούμε στα ήθη και στα έθιμα των εκατομμυρίων μουσουλμάνων που θα εγκατασταθούν στην Ελλάδα. Πήραμε μια πρώτη γεύση από την υπερασπιστική γραμμή που πήρε η δικηγόρος του Αχμέτ Βακάς, του Πακιστανού που άφησε ανάπηρη τη 15χρονη Μυρτώ στην Πάρο. Η δικηγόρος του Αχμέτ Βακάς καταρχάς προσπάθησε να εξαιρεθούν δύο γυναίκες από τους κληρωθέντες ενόρκους, ώστε οι ένορκοι να είναι όλοι άνδρες. Μετά χρησιμοποίησε το γεγονός ότι, όταν ο Αχμέτ επιτέθηκε στη Μυρτώ, «διανύαμε τη μεγάλη νηστεία του Ραμαζανιού, η οποία απαγορεύει στους μουσουλμάνους όχι μόνο να τρώνε, αλλά και να συνουσιάζονται και να αυνανίζονται, οπότε ο Αχμέτ ήταν στερημένος». Επίσης, η συνήγορος ζήτησε επιείκεια γιατί ο Αχμέτ «μεγάλωσε στα βουνά του Πακιστάν, όπου οι άνθρωποι είναι σκληροί και δεν έχουν σε μεγάλη υπόληψη τις γυναίκες, τις οποίες θεωρούν αναλώσιμες».

Αν δεν το έχετε συνειδητοποιήσει ακόμα, είναι η Ελλάδα που θα πρέπει να προσαρμοστεί στις πολιτισμικές και τις θρησκευτικές συνήθειες και αρχές όσων καθημερινά καταπατούν τα ελληνικά σύνορα. Και η φερόμενη ως ελληνική κυβέρνηση στην Αθήνα κάνει ό,τι είναι δυνατόν προκειμένου ο οποιοσδήποτε θέλει να μπορεί να γίνει Έλληνας πολίτης. Στην Εφημερίδα της Κυβερνήσεως δημοσιεύθηκε η απόφαση του υπουργού Δικαιοσύνης κ. Κοντονή, και έτσι λαθρομετανάστες που εγκληματούν θα έχουν το δικαίωμα να γίνουν «Έλληνες» πολίτες.

«Γλιτώσαμε τον κίνδυνο να επιστρέφουν οι μετανάστες στην Αφρική» είπε ο κ. Τσίπρας μετά τη συμφωνία που έκλεισε με τους Ευρωπαίους για να επιστρέφονται όλοι οι λαθρομετανάστες στην Ελλάδα. Η Ελλάδα θα πάρει τη θέση της Αφρικής συνεχίζοντας να έχει ανοιχτά σύνορα, αυξάνοντας τη λαθρομετανάστευση με επιδόματα και δωρεάν διαμερίσματα, και χρηματοδοτώντας ακροαριστερές μη κυβερνητικές οργανώσεις, όπως αυτές του κ. Σόρος, που βασικό σκοπό έχουν την εξαφάνιση του ευρωπαϊκού πολιτισμού και της ευρωπαϊκής ταυτότητας. Θέλουν την Ελλάδα Ελλαδιστάν.
