Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke today with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper about the Iranian regime’s ongoing attacks across the Middle East and the critical importance of restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The Secretary and Foreign Secretary agreed on the need for international efforts to ensure shipping can move freely and energy supplies can reach global markets.

Holy Thursday is here, and with it the quiet hum of a community preparing for the holiest night of the year. To all our readers celebrating, Kaló Páscha, may this Sunday's Anastasi bring you light, joy, and a table full of people you love.

This week's Mazi is a full one. The Archdiocesan Executive Committee convened on Holy Monday over the deepening crisis at St. Demetrios in Astoria, Greece is banning social media for children under 15, a Saharan dust storm turned Crete's sky a deep red, and the Greek Independence Day Parade on 5th Avenue is just around the corner. Υποδοχή του Αγίου Φωτός στο αεροδρόμιο Ηρακλείου

Στην υποδοχή του Αγίου Φωτός στο αεροδρόμιο Νίκος Καζαντζάκης του Ηρακλείου που έγινε απόψε, Μέγα Σάββατο 11 Απριλίου 2026 παρουσία του Αρχιεπισκόπου Κρήτης κ. Ευγενίου, μετείχε ο Περιφερειάρχης Κρήτης Σταύρος Αρναουτάκης.
Το Άγιο Φως έφτασε στο Ηράκλειο στις 21:45 περίπου μεταφερόμενο από τον Αρχιγραμματέα της Ιεράς Επαρχιακής Συνόδου της Εκκλησίας Κρήτης Αρχιμανδρίτη Νήφωνα Βασιλάκη.
Μετά την καθιερωμένη τελετή υποδοχής και τη δέηση, το Άγιο Φως παραδόθηκε στους εκπροσώπους των Ιερών Μητροπόλεων της Εκκλησίας Κρήτης, προκειμένου να μεταλαμπαδευτεί σε όλες τις ενορίες του νησιού.
Υπενθυμίζεται ότι η άφιξη του Αγίου Φωτός στην Ελλάδα πραγματοποιήθηκε νωρίτερα στο αεροδρόμιο Ελευθέριος Βενιζέλος με κυβερνητικό αεροσκάφος από τα Ιεροσόλυμα.

Δήλωση Περιφερειάρχη Κρήτης

«Υποδεχόμαστε και φέτος με κατάνυξη και σεβασμό το Άγιο Φως, το σύμβολο της νίκης της ζωής πάνω στον θάνατο», δήλωσε ο Περιφερειάρχης Κρήτης Σταύρος Αρναουτάκης.
«Σε μια εποχή γεμάτη προκλήσεις, το μήνυμα της Ανάστασης παραμένει επίκαιρο, δίνοντας ελπίδα και δύναμη σε κάθε πολίτη. Με ενότητα και αλληλεγγύη, προχωρούμε μπροστά με σταθερότητα. Εύχομαι το Θείο Φως να φωτίζει τις καρδιές μας και να οδηγεί τα βήματά μας. Καλή Ανάσταση σε όλους τους Κρητικούς και τις Κρητικές, με υγεία και προκοπή», τόνισε ο Περιφερειάρχης Κρήτης.
