Members discuss proposals to reinvigorate technology transfer discussions |
The Working Group on Trade and Transfer of Technology discussed on 15 May members’ proposals on future topics for discussion and brainstormed on how to inject new energy into finding ways to increase flows of technology to developing economies. Members elected Ambassador Raimondas Alisauskas of Lithuania as Chair for 2024 and granted the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) observer status in the Working Group.

Members discuss progress on WTO-FIFA cotton initiative, trade trends, World Cotton Day |
At the WTO's Cotton Day on 7 May, the Cotton-4+ countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Côte d'Ivoire), and other cotton-producing developing economies reviewed the progress made in implementing the WTO-FIFA Memorandum of Understanding on Cotton, notably the launch of the “Partenariat pour le Coton” in the margins of the 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13) in February. Participants also discussed the latest market trends in cotton trade, negotiations on cotton and plans for World Cotton Day 2024. |

Committee on Market Access hosts second thematic session on supply chain resilience |
The Committee on Market Access held a thematic session on supply chain resilience on 6 May, building on a session held on this topic in November of last year. The session featured presentations from China, the European Union, India, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Pakistan, the United Kingdom and the United States, with speakers outlining their domestic experiences in bolstering supply chain resilience. |

Preparations for upcoming 2024 Global Review of Aid for Trade intensify |
In preparation for the 2024 Global Review of Aid for Trade on 26-28 June, international financial institutions, observer organizations and WTO members updated the Committee on Trade and Development on 30 April on their recent Aid-for-Trade activities. A workshop held on 29 April presented preliminary findings from the joint 2024 Aid-for-Trade monitoring and evaluation exercise of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the WTO. |

WTO and ADB strengthen collaboration for sustainable economic growth |
The WTO Secretariat and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Tbilisi, Georgia, on 1 May aimed at bolstering collaborative efforts to drive inclusive and sustainable development through trade and economic integration, including in Asia and the Pacific region. E-commerce negotiators finalize “technical discussions” and outline next steps |
Co-convenors of the e-commerce talks — Australia, Japan and Singapore — said at their last round of negotiations held from 22 to 25 April that the work now will move to the final decision-making phase. This is where participating members will focus on domestic consultations and conduct political outreach to try to close the gaps on remaining issues in the negotiations, they added. |

Transparency concerns remain at centre during discussions at SCM Committee meeting |
The Committee on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures (SCM) held regular and special meetings on 23 April 2024. The need to improve transparency through the submission of timely and complete subsidy notifications was once again a major theme. Committee Chair James Lester (New Zealand) emphasized the critical importance of transparency for the Committee’s operations and highlighted the concerning low rate of compliance with notification obligations. He strongly encouraged members to submit their pending notifications. |

| Thirty years of trade growth and poverty reduction |
Since the signing of the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization on 15 April 1994, global trade has surged, reaching over US$ 30.4 trillion in 2023, a fivefold increase since 1995. At the same time, tariffs have declined markedly under the WTO, helping to reduce trade costs. This growth in trade has coincided with a significant decrease in poverty worldwide, indicating the impact of trade on supporting economic development and improving people’s lives. |

Fresh thinking needed to move agriculture talks forward, says Chair
The Chair of the WTO's agriculture negotiations, Ambassador Alparslan Acarsoy of Türkiye, told trade officials that “fresh thinking” was needed to break the persistent deadlock in the talks. At the first meeting of the agriculture negotiating body since the 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13), he also urged WTO members to acknowledge the work undertaken so far.

Trade and Gender course supports officials in skills enhancement, experience-sharing
A four-day training course on Trade and Gender, which came to a close on 18 April, brought together 27 government officials from 15 Latin American and African WTO members. Committee adopts recommendations to support vulnerable members in tackling food insecurity |
At a special meeting on 17 April, the WTO Committee on Agriculture adopted a report containing recommendations on how to help least developed countries (LDCs) and net food-importing developing countries (NFIDCs) respond to acute food insecurity. The Chair of the Committee, Mr Kjetil Tysdal from Norway, congratulated members for reaching consensus on addressing the food security concerns of the most vulnerable WTO members. |

At a meeting of the Committee on Market Access (CMA) on 25-26 March, members agreed on a timetable for thematic sessions in 2024 focusing on supply chain resilience and on how to promote a greener Harmonized System (HS), the system used to classify traded goods, in collaboration with the World Customs Organization (WCO). Επί χρόνια, κυκλοφορούσε την έντυπη έκδοσή της σε ένα ικανότατο τιράζ (5000 καλαίσθητων φύλλων εβδομαδιαίως) και εντυπωσίαζε με την ποιότητα της εμφάνισης και το ουσιώδες, μαχητικό και έντιμο περιεχόμενο της.
Η δύναμη της Πένας της Εφημερίδας, η Ειλικρίνεια, οι Ερευνές της που έφερναν πάντα ουσιαστικό αποτέλεσμα ενημέρωσης, την έφεραν πολύ γρήγορα πρώτη στην προτίμηση των αναγνωστών και γρήγορα εξελίχθηκε σε Εφημερίδα Γνώμης και όχι μόνον για την Περιφέρεια στην οποία κυκλοφορούσε.

Στις σελίδες της, θα βρείτε ακόμα και σήμερα μόνο άξιες και χρήσιμες Πολιτικές Προσωπικότητες αλλά και ενημέρωση από κάθε Κόμμα της Ελληνικής Βουλής. Η «ΠΟΛΙΤΙΚΗ» ουδέποτε διαχώρησε τους αναγνώστες της ανάλογα με τα πολιτικά τους πιστεύω. Επραττε το καθήκον της, ενημερώνοντας όλους τους Ελληνες, ως όφειλε.

Η ΕΦΗΜΕΡΙΔΑ «ΠΟΛΙΤΙΚΗ», είναι ένα βήμα Ισονομίας και Ισοπολιτείας, έννοιες απόλυτα επιθυμητές, ιδιαιτέρως στις ημέρες μας. Η Εφημερίδα «ΠΟΛΙΤΙΚΗ» κέρδισε την αποδοχή και τον σεβασμό που της ανήκει, με «εξετάσεις» εικοσι τεσσάρων ολόκληρων ετών, με συνεχείς αιματηρούς αγώνες κατά της τοπικής διαπλοκής, με αγώνα επιβίωσης σε πολύ δύσκολους καιρούς, με Εντιμότητα, αίσθηση Καθήκοντος και Ευθύνης.
