AHEPA Salutes 7th Greek Investment Forum and U.S. Investment Roadshow
The Athens Exchange and the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) in cooperation with Enterprise Greece are holding the 7th Greek Investment Forum, "Greece: Back on the Path to Growth," on June 19 and an investment roadshow on June 19-20 at the Peninsula Hotel in New York. (For more:

On the occasion of the Forum and investment roadshow, Supreme President Carl R. Hollister stated: "We salute the organizers and participants of the Investment Forum and investment roadshow in the United States, which includes events held in the heart of the global capital markets, New York City. As we witnessed the return to the global bond markets of a well-received Greek sovereign debt offering last summer, we are encouraged to see the positive conditions now set forth for direct and indirect foreign investment in Greece. As the leading companies of Greece make their case for investment capital, the investment community will do well to participate in a new chapter of economic growth in Greece.
"We convey our best to the Greek delegation for a productive series of meetings and events, which are vital to Greece's economic recovery. We also appreciate the support of U.S. Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt and Greece's Alternate Minister of Economy & Development Alexis Charitsis, who are accompanying the Greek delegation. This initiative, which will help to nurture closer economic ties between the two countries, and is an important lead-up to the
2018 Thessaloniki International Fair where the United States is the Honored Country, has our full support."
Congressional Action toward Turkey Commended
AHEPA applauds two congressional initiatives undertaken by U.S. representatives during the past week that are directed toward Turkey and Turkish aggression.
The first,
a June 12 letter to President Donald J. Trump, urged the president to condemn acts of aggression committed by Turkey in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Cyprus. It also urges President Trump to reassert the right of Cyprus to develop its hydrocarbon resources. The letter reiterates the statements of past and current Administration officials, including Vice President Mike Pence, who have described Cyprus as a "strategic partner." The letter, led by U.S. Reps. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), had the bipartisan support of 16 U.S. representatives.
The second,
a June 15 letter to Secretary of Defense James Mattis, urges Secretary Mattis to prevent the planned delivery of F-35 jets to Turkey. The legislators cite a multitude of reasons, including: Turkey's planned purchase of Russian S-400 surface-to-air missiles, a lack of confidence Turkey will use the jets responsibly in the region, the assault of protesters on American soil by President Erdogan's security detail and treatment of U.S. citizens, Turkey's aggression toward U.S. allies, and Turkey's arc toward more authoritarian rule. The letter, led by U.S. Reps. John Sarbanes (D-MD) and Gus Bilirakis, had the bipartisan support of 44 U.S. representatives.
"We appreciate Congressmen Pallone, Bilirakis and Sarbanes for their leadership on their two letters, respectively, and we thank the legislators who supported their efforts," Supreme President Carl R. Hollister said. "It is critical to continue to bring Turkey's alarming behavior to the Administration's attention. The United States must send a strong message to Turkey that its provocative and aggressive actions are unacceptable."

New York Times (June 18)
It was Saturday night in Athens, and I was surrounded by dozens of young Greeks on the packed veranda of Six d.o.g.s., a cafe-bar and arts space that runs the length of an alleyway in the Monastiraki neighborhood. It was the 10-year anniversary party for Laternative, a local radio show launched in the wake of the country's debt crisis, and people spilled into the gallery space, gathered under light-strung trees in the back garden and in the club area where the first of several bands was about to play.
