ESM Press Release no. 7 The 8th Joint Regional Financing Arrangements (RFAs) Research Seminar starts today in Luxembourg. The two-day hybrid seminar will examine the economic and financial risks associated with global fragmentation. This event is organised jointly by the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), and Latin American Reserve Fund (FLAR). This year’s seminar comprises three sessions, exploring the following topics: (i) tools and methodologies for effectively measuring and detecting fragmentation risks; (ii) the regional impact of geopolitics on trade, supply chains, and economic stability; and (iii) financial implications of fragmentation in terms of capital flows, sovereign funding costs, and debt challenges. This will be followed by a policy roundtable, where the participants will discuss strategies, policies, and the role of global cooperation in mitigating risks posed by fragmentation. The three co-organising institutions launched this series of research seminars in 2017. This annual event offers the RFAs a platform to exchange views with each other and academics, policymakers, economists from central banks and finance ministries, as well as representatives from international financial institutions on issues relevant to RFAs’ operations. The next opportunity for the RFAs to meet will be the 9th RFA High-level Dialogue in October 2024 in Washington DC on the occasion of the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings. ------------

ESM Press Release no. 6/2024 (Luxembourg/Brussels) — The European Stability Mechanism (ESM) and the European Parliament signed on 7 May a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to establish a framework of cooperation between the two institutions. This MoC builds on a longstanding dialogue between the two institutions, including exchanges in the context of the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) and of the Inter-institutional Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance of the European Union. The cooperation will be strengthened through exchanges of views during bilateral meetings. In particular, the ECON Committee will invite the ESM Managing Director to participate in exchanges of views with the Committee at least once a year. In turn, the ESM will invite a delegation of the ECON Committee on an annual basis. “This agreement reflects the ESM’s commitment to further enhancing transparency, accountability, and inter-institutional dialogue. The ESM has had an ongoing dialogue with the European Parliament since 2012. It has presented to the Parliament, on a voluntary basis, important developments concerning ESM activities and the euro area. This additional step will strengthen the engagement with the Parliament, ensuring a more robust framework for discussions,” said ESM Managing Director Pierre Gramegna.

| Turning visions into actions with the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform "We cannot build a future we cannot imagine." This was the theme of the session where I spoke that closed the two-day joint conference held by the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform and the World Circular Economy Forum in Brussels this April. Over 1360 circular enthusiasts on-site and almost 10,000 online. While the conference covered a lot of ground, I had hoped for more open discussions about the systemic flaws of our current economic model and see more youth representatives in the programme. 💬Read the editorial |
