In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the President of the European Parliament has established a number of measures to contain the spread of the virus and to safeguard Parliament's core activities. The current precautionary measures do not affect work on legislative priorities. Core activities are maintained to ensure the smooth running of the institution's legislative, budgetary, and scrutiny functions. The meetings allow for remote participation in a virtual environment.
The next AFCO committee meeting is scheduled for 30 September 2021 at 9:00 - 12:00 and 13:45 - 16:45.

On 6 September 2021, Members of the Committee Women's Rights and Gender Equality and Subcommittee on Human Rights will hold an exchange of views on women’s and girls’ rights in Afghanistan. The debate will focus on the risks faced by women and girls under Taliban, prospects for the future, and the EU's activities to support women and girls. The meeting will be organised in association with the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan.

At the meeting on 31 August 2021, the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality held an exchange of views with Parliament's experts in EIGE's Experts' Forum: members Mr Mikael Gustafsson and Ms Edit Bauer and alternate member Ms Gotelind Alber. The mandate of the current members of the EIGE's Experts' Forum is about to expire on 30 November 2021 and the FEMM Committee invited Parliament's experts to present their work in this mandate of the Forum.
Parliament's experts informed Members about topics of concern, such a gender-based violence, about meetings that took place and studies that were prepared. They also shared their concern about the lack of sufficient and up to date data, which is vital to the work of EIGE. The

The Committees on Development and on Women's Rights and Gender Equality will discuss joint draft report on the EU Gender Action Plan (GAP) III on 6 September. Rapporteur is Ms Chrysoula Zacharopoulou’s.
The report calls for more effective EU commitment and examines GAP III's proposed actions and targets regarding eliminating gender violence, ensuring access to healthcare for women, promoting economic and social equality, encouraging participation and leadership by women, involving women in peacebuilding and security, and building a green and digital society.

In her draft opinion the rapporteur, Ms Samira Rafaela (Renew, FR), reaffirms the need to implement gender mainstreaming and gender budgeting throughout all the phases of the budgetary procedure. She also calls on the Commission to increase the budget of the EIGE and to assign an independent budget line to the objective in the CERV Programme dedicated to promoting gender equality and stresses the importance of increasing resources for the Daphne strand.
The rapporteur finally calls for the EU budget to encourage women's participation and interest in the digital economy and STEM sectors. 74 amendments and 8 compromises have been tabled.

The United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union has had a significant impact on several sectors, including EU fisheries, which face a 25 % reduction of their catch value in UK waters. To mitigate the short-term impact on the worst affected countries and sectors, the Commission proposed a €5 billion fund, the Brexit adjustment reserve. In a political agreement on the proposal, now to be formally confirmed by both, the co legislators included Parliament’s proposal to earmark a minimum level of support for the fisheries sector, in particular small-scale coastal fisheries that depend on fishing activities in UK waters.
