Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The two leaders discussed the situation in Venezuela following last month’s election. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for an impartial process to credibly verify the results and ensure their legitimacy. He thanked President Lula for his leadership in the region in support of democracy. The two leaders underscored their concerns over post-election violence, and they underlined the importance of transparency and an outcome that reflects the will of the Venezuelan people.
The Prime Minister and the President underscored their commitment to advancing shared priorities between Canada and Brazil, such as standing up for democracy and defending human rights around the world.
Prime Minister Trudeau and President Lula agreed to stay in close contact and looked forward to continuing their collaboration.

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the Prime Minister of Haiti, Garry Conille.
Prime Minister Trudeau congratulated Prime Minister Conille on his appointment and thanked him for his efforts to quickly install a new transitional government that puts the well-being of the Haitian people first. The two leaders agreed on the importance of working closely with the Transitional Presidential Council and taking the appropriate steps toward holding free and fair elections.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Conille discussed the deployment of the United Nations-authorized Multinational Security Support mission to restore security and stability in Haiti and to provide much-needed relief to the Haitian people. Prime Minister Trudeau reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to working with Haiti, Kenya, and other international partners to support a successful mission. The leaders underlined the need for international partners to step up and provide much-needed support for the mission. Prime Minister Trudeau also highlighted Canada’s longstanding support for Haitian-led solutions to the ongoing crisis the country is facing.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Conille reaffirmed the strong bond between Canada and Haiti and agreed to remain in regular contact.

From mining critical minerals to building cars and batteries, Canada is attracting historic investments to help secure and create jobs, grow our economy, and keep our air clean. In the last four years, we’ve seen companies announce more than $46 billion in electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing investments across Canada. They want a reliable partner with world-class talent, and this is exactly what we have to offer.
Today, the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and the Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, joined representatives from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company to announce the company’s more than $575 million project to modernize and expand its plant in Napanee, Ontario. This investment will help Goodyear create an energy-efficient, end-to-end manufacturing process and increase its production capacity, including of EV and all-terrain tires.
The project will create 200 new, highly skilled manufacturing jobs by 2027 and secure more than 1,000 jobs in Napanee. This project will get Goodyear’s Napanee plant to net-zero emissions by 2040, helping achieve Canada’s goal of a net-zero economy by 2050.
Goodyear Canada will receive federal funding of up to $44.3 million from the Strategic Innovation Fund for this expansion project.
The Government of Ontario, through Invest Ontario, will contribute $20 million to support key components of the project, including the implementation of innovative technologies and skills training programs.
The company will leverage existing collaborative programs to help ensure Canada remains a world leader in the EV sector.

- Goodyear Canada’s modernized facility in Napanee, Ontario, is also supported by incentives from the Town of Greater Napanee, the Township of Stone Mills, and the County of Lennox and Addington, as a result of a newly launched Community Improvement Plan.

“We just saw the best of Canada. Over the past two weeks, more than 330 athletes from across the country represented Team Canada at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Their spirit, sportsmanship, and resilience were matched only by the celebration and joy they brought to Canadians.
“Our Olympians have made us proud. They competed with athletes from around the world and brought home a total of 27 medals. They showed everyone that Canada belongs on the world stage – as leaders and champions at the pinnacle of sport.
“The stories behind the medals make the victories even more special. Summer McIntosh, at just 17 years old, won Canada three gold medals. Andre De Grasse led Canada’s men’s 4x100-metre relay team to an Olympic gold, making him the most decorated Canadian male Olympian, with seven career medals. Christa Deguchi won Canada’s first ever gold medal in judo. Josh Liendo made history as the first Black Canadian swimmer to win a medal at the Olympics. Ethan Katzberg and Camryn Rogers showed the world that Canada is a hammer-throwing nation, winning gold in the men’s and women’s competitions. And we finished strong when Katie Vincent won gold in the canoe sprint 200-metre final, and Philip Kim won the first ever gold in the new Olympic breaking competition. These are just some of the remarkable athletes who represented and exemplified the Maple Leaf at the Olympics.
