| | | After the trade and tariffs deal that was reached between the EU and the US yesterday, the Chair of the International Trade Committee, Bernd LANGE (S&D, DE) issued the following statement: | “The defenders of yesterday’s EU-US deal will say that the worst has been averted, that the deal creates stability for the largest trading relationship in the world, that the deal ensures EU competitiveness vis-à-vis other partners and that provides cooperation between the EU and the US beyond trade. I strongly hope they are right. For my part, I see an asymmetry set in stone. What is the price we are paying for this deal? Many questions still remain on this deal and I’ll make sure that whatever one thinks about it, Parliament gets answers to all the outstanding questions. First and foremost I want to make sure that nothing in our right to regulate, from digital services to carbon pricing, has been compromised in return for this deal. Also that if this deal turns into binding commitments, the European Parliament and Council will have the last say on it.”
