Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke today with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot. The Secretary and Foreign Minister discussed the urgent need for a humanitarian ceasefire in Sudan, agreed to continue cooperation on diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, and agreed to continue implementing President Trump’s peace plan for Gaza.

Happy New Year! Here’s what happened at State this week.

President Trump convened talks on the future of Gaza, hosting a delegation led by Israel’s prime minister at Mar-a-Lago.
President Trump and Secretary Rubio discussed prospects for peace in Ukraine with President Zelenskyy.
The United States welcomed the resolute efforts of the Cambodian and Thai governments to uphold the December 27 ceasefire agreement.
The U.S. and Israel Affirm Partnership for Peace

President Trump hosted Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu to discuss progress toward peace in Gaza on December 29.
“We have a second-to-none partnership,” said President Trump. “We have peace in the Middle East, and we’re going to keep it that way.”
“We’ve never had a friend even close to the friend we have in Donald Trump in the White House,” said Prime Minister Netanyahu, as the two leaders held a briefing on the sidelines of their meeting.
“We’ve decided to award the Israel Prize this year to President Trump, for his tremendous contributions to Israel and the Jewish people,” continued Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Addressing the press gathered for the arrival of Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy, President Trump affirmed his belief that both the Ukrainian president and the Russian president “want to make a deal.”
President Trump held a call with Russia’s President Putin before the meeting. Ukrainian and European leaders will attend additional discussions in Washington, D.C., in January.

Ensuring Lasting Peace Between Cambodia and Thailand
The United States applauds the Cambodian and Thai governments for their resolute efforts to uphold the December 27 ceasefire agreement and welcomes Thailand’s release of the 18 Cambodian soldiers, a positive step toward rebuilding neighborly relations and trust.
The United States stands ready to support both governments as they resume implementing the critical measures outlined in the October 26 Joint Declaration.
