Report highlights – December 2025

  • Despite challenges, the EU agriculture sustains its high level of productivity.
  • The EU maintains its high level of self-sufficiency and enhances its trade performance in several commodities, in the wake of an increased intensification of global competition.
  • An aging EU population keeps the protein intake slightly higher, with a growing preference for dairy products, fish and poultry.
  • Labour productivity growth remains the main driver of EU productivity.
  • The overall environmental impact of EU farms improves, with a reduction in both greenhouse gas emissions and nitrogen surplus.

Please visit the Medium-term outlook webpage to access the report. EU balance sheets are available in Agri-food data portal, both in the form of tables and graphs.
