These sanctions do not advance U.S.-led efforts to achieve a ceasefire, bring all hostages home, and end the war. We reject any notion of equivalence: Hamas is a terrorist organization that committed unspeakable atrocities, continues to hold innocent civilians hostage, and prevents the people of Gaza from living in peace. We remind our partners not to forget who the real enemy is. The United States urges the reversal of the sanctions and stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel. Begin Text: The Kingdom of Spain hosted a meeting of senior diplomatic officials from the Small Group of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS/Daesh today in Madrid. Spanish Deputy Minister of Foreign and Global Affairs Diego Martínez Belío opened the meeting and emphasized the importance of countering ISIS/Daesh globally. Director General of Foreign and Security Policy Alberto Ucelay and United States Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism Gregory D. LoGerfo co-chaired the single-day meeting that reaffirmed Coalition members’ commitment to enhance collective efforts to disrupt foreign terrorist travel, operational planning, financial support networks, and recruitment efforts. The members addressed the ISIS/Daesh security risks in Syria, including those associated with detained ISIS/Daesh fighters and civilians in displaced persons camps in the northeast. They affirmed the Coalition’s continuing commitment to counter ISIS/Daesh in post-Assad Syria, including through increased border security and information sharing and the return and repatriation of Syrians, Iraqis, and third country nationals to their communities and countries of origin. The members prioritized disruption of ISIS/Daesh travel and its capability to carry out external attacks. They welcomed the creation of the Coalition’s Terrorist Travel Working Group and its inaugural meeting hosted by INTERPOL May 27-28, noting the importance of ensuring alignment of foreign counterterrorism policy and international law enforcement efforts. Members welcomed the incorporation of lines of effort from the United Kingdom and Türkiye-led ISIS-Khorasan Province Diplomatic Grouping to the Coalition. They welcomed Uzbekistan as the newest member of the Coalition and lauded its invaluable leadership in addressing the ISIS-Khorasan threat before it reaches the United States, Europe, and other regions. African members of the Coalition urged regional initiatives to counter ISIS/Daesh affiliates in sub-Saharan Africa. Nigeria addressed areas of cooperation with the Coalition to disrupt financial support networks and counter terrorist travel among sub-regions on the continent. To confront changing ISIS/Daesh operations and stymie recruitment efforts, the Coalition assessed how to mitigate emerging threats from the use of the internet and to understand and leverage new technologies for counter terrorist purposes. The Coalition considered operationalizing best practices, including reducing terrorist radicalization in diaspora communities. The delegations endorsed the necessary re-structure of the D-ISIS Coalition in order to effectively counter the ISIS/Daesh threat. This includes revising working group mechanisms to counter terrorist travel, disrupt terrorist financial networks, prevent terrorist recruitment, and regionally focused groups for Syria and Iraq, Central Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa. This structure will enable maximum effectiveness in our efforts to ensure the enduring defeat of ISIS/Daesh. Additional measures will target a fraudulent charity linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. We will continue to use all available tools to prevent abuse of the nonprofit sector for the benefit of terrorist groups and their state sponsors. On June 12, Secretary Rubio discussed Israel's action against Iran in a White House statement. “We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region,” Secretary Rubio said on X. President Trump also discussed the rising tensions in the Middle East and the chances he gave Iran to make a deal in a recent post. We continue to remind U.S. citizens in Israel and the broader region of the continued need for caution as tensions rise in the Middle East. Ahead of his trip, Deputy Spokesperson Mignon Houston gave a briefing on strengthening both border security and regional partnerships. U.S. Soccer Fans Welcome Global Audiences “We think there’s no greater time for soccer in the United States,” said Major League Soccer’s Chief Communications Officer Dan Courtemanche during a Foreign Press Center conference for journalists covering upcoming FIFA events. The White House has convened an interagency task force to support preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and highlight the best of American hospitality and athletic excellence for visitors. This action targets vessels and their owners and operators that have undermined U.S. sanctions, as well as front companies and Houthi operatives that have facilitated illicit trade and smuggling. The United States will continue to use the tools at our disposal to eliminate the threats posed by the Houthis. By targeting the illicit front companies and facilitators that sustain the Houthis, we are depriving the Houthis of resources they need to carry out their reckless and destabilizing actions. The United States is committed to protecting U.S. servicemembers and our allies, defending freedom of navigation, and combatting Houthi exploitation of Yemenis. Today’s action is being taken pursuant to the counterterrorism authority Executive Order (E.O.) 13224, as amended. The U.S. Department of State designated Ansarallah as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) pursuant to E.O. 13224, as amended, effective February 16, 2024. On March 5, 2025, the Department of State announced the re-designation of Ansarallah as a Foreign Terrorist Organization pursuant to section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended. Here’s what happened at State this past week. ⤵️🍁 Secretary Rubio joined President Trump for the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit. 📜 We signed the U.S.-UK Economic Prosperity Deal, a critical step toward promoting reciprocal trade with a key ally and partner. 🚨Following Israel's action against Iran, our top priority remains protecting Americans in the region. (Official White House Photo by Daniel Torok) On June 15, Secretary Rubio spoke with Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand, ahead of the start of the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit. On June 16, President Trump and Secretary Rubio attended the 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada. There, the President participated in the Summit’s opening session, and discussed global economic and geopolitical issues with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, and President of France Emmanuel Macron. (Official White House Photo by Daniel Torok) On June 16, President Trump signed an Executive Order implementing American commitments toward the U.S.-UK Economic Prosperity Deal. The deal strengthens the relationship between the U.S. and the United Kingdom by:Giving American companies unprecedented access to British markets Committing our countries to adopting a structured, negotiated approach to addressing U.S. national security concerns Eliminating numerous non-tariff barriers that unfairly discriminate against American products This agreement also encourages other trading partners to promote reciprocal trade with the United States. As the President said after signing the agreement, the deal will drive American prosperity, particularly in the realm of agriculture, by “dramatically increasing access for American beef, ethanol, and virtually all of the products produced by our great farmers.” Israel-Iran Conflict Following Israel’s action against Iran, we continue to diligently monitor the situation, and are assessing all potential risks to U.S. assets, personnel, and citizens in the region. “President Trump and the Administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners,” Secretary Rubio said in a statement. On June 19, Secretary Rubio discussed the conflict between Israel and Iran with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy. “The United States and the UK agree Iran should never get a nuclear weapon,” the Secretary said on X. We announced expanded vetting for visa applicants, upholding the highest standards of national security and public safety. Secretary Rubio met with Norway’s Foreign Minister, affirming mutual support for NATO’s new defense spending benchmark. Secretary Rubio swore in Edward Walsh as the new U.S. Ambassador to Ireland. The U.S. sanctioned five Mexico-based leaders of Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación, a cartel responsible for trafficking fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and other illicit drugs into the United States. Secretary Rubio announced U.S. support for the reelection of Doreen Bogdan-Martin as Secretary-General for the International Telecommunication Union.
