Dino Alves: One foot on the moon, the other on earth

­ It is late 2023, October to be more precise. We are watching the Portuguese Golden Globes, a ceremony where the best in arts is recognised. Later that evening, the award came up for the person who stood out the most in fashion. There were five nominees, and out of all, Dino Alves won the award. From all the people he thanked — an extensive list that included, we think, everyone he could thank — he left his parents to last, to whom he dedicated that award.

Growing Beyond

­ At the age of 90, Sanjo has reached the other side of the world.Portugal’s oldest shoe brand now reaches the far corners of the world, with surprising export destinations including South Africa, Australia, and the Ivory Coast. The company has now set its sights on developing its own retail network.

­ Rita Pereira was born in Lagos in the Algarve region, and still lives there. The sculpting of stone — a robust and static material which she says can become extremely delicate — is where she finds her artistic language, creating pieces that evoke movement, subtlety and poetry.She recognises that her art is an extension of the environment that surrounds her, of the tranquillity of the sea, of her proximity to nature and her constant contact with her roots.
