The following GAIN reports were released on May 8, 2025. _______
In 2024, Bulgarian imports from the United States were nearly $100 million, slightly lower than in 2023, but still up over 50 percent since 2019. Imports of U.S. products were driven by several product groups such as U.S. beef, tree and ground nuts, food preparations, whiskies, essential oils, and rubber. The U.S. Census Bureau’s (USCB) export data tracks U.S. food and agricultural trade shipped directly to Bulgaria. However, it does not measure the substantial level of U.S. agricultural trade to Bulgaria routed through other European ports of entry, mainly in Western Europe. According to U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. suppliers exported $32.6 million of U.S. food, beverages and agricultural products to Bulgaria in 2024, at the same level as in 2023. However, when including indirect shipments, the total number rises to $99 million.
China: Trade Alert - CIFER Registration RenewalsThe General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) requires enterprises be registered with the Bureau of Import and Export Food Safety before exporting most food and beverage products as part of the requirements enumerated in Decree 248. U.S. enterprises registered in the China Import Food Enterprises Registration (CIFER) system as part of the country's requirements should take notice of their registration expiration date at the CIFER Query website. GACC requests that enterprises submit the necessary documents to prevent any registration status lapse. U.S. enterprises must initiate the registration renewal process within the window of three to six months prior to the registration’s expiration date. For enterprises registered via U.S. FDA, (i.e., enterprises subject to competent authority registration), there is a separate obligation to renew your listing application within the FDA Export Listing Module (ELM) every two years.
Honduras: Coffee AnnualHonduran coffee production is forecast to reach 5.52 million 60-kilogram bags in marketing year (MY) 2024/25 and rise to 5.80 million bags in MY 2025/26. This upward trends is supported by a decline in coffee rust, improved labor availability, and an 81 percent surge in international coffee prices, driven in large part by adverse climatic conditions affecting major coffee-producing regions worldwide. As a result, Honduran coffee exports are projected to rise to 5.36 million bags in MY 2024/25 and 5.5 million bags in MY 2025/26.
Turkey: Turkiye Opens Import Quota for One Million Metric Tons of CornOn May 1, the Turkish government announced a zero-duty tariff rate quota for 1.0 million metric tons (MMT) of imported corn. The TRQ is effective from the announcement date through the end of July this year. The aim of the quota is to stabilize the price and supply of corn available on the local market. This is the third time that the government has opened a TRQ for corn in marketing year 2024/25 (Sep-Aug); the combined total of the first two quotas was 2.0 MMT.
