Report highlights – October 2024

Agricultural markets are showing positive signs of a return to stability, but the situation remains fragile on account of weather-related problems, sanitary pressure in the animal sector and the trade environment. Input costs have steadily declined over the past months, and food inflation has returned to a moderate rate, although food prices remain high for some products.

The general macroeconomic and food price environment points to possible improvements in demand for agri-food products in most sectors. Uncertainties persist with particular challenges linked to more frequent extreme weather events impacting production, geopolitical events and developments with consequences on trade flows and input prices, notably the escalating conflict in the Middle East, and possible trade disputes with China, as well as reemerging diseases of both plants and animals.
