Michelle Obama :Celebrating young women from the Girls Opportunity Alliance

Hi there,

Last fall, I spent time with some remarkable young women in Malawi who are part of the Girls Opportunity Alliance. I was so moved by their determination to get their education and their hopes for the future.

I had a chance to catch up with them virtually ahead of their graduation from secondary school. These young women have big dreams for themselves, from becoming surgeons to studying human rights. They want to show other girls what is possible when you get an education — and they already are.

On the left, Mrs. Obama is smiling and holding her hands together, on the right, a group of students with dark skintones and closely cropped hair in blue uniforms are smiling and laughing. On the bottom, a button that says "Watch Now"

Because of AGE Africa, these young women were able to pursue their studies, learn about their rights, and develop their voices as young leaders. AGE Africa is one of many organizations we support through the Girls Opportunity Alliance to help young women pursue their education and their dreams. If you’re interested in joining in our efforts to support girls around the world, click here to learn more.

I see myself in these girls. I think you’ll see yourself in them, too. Let’s commit ourselves to supporting young women like them who want to break barriers and get the education they so deeply deserve.

-Michelle
