This week the focus was on the opening ceremony, the issue of the European degree, tourism and the press trip. PRESS MATERIAL Monday 8 July 2024 ­ ­ • Council of the EU ­ 08/07/2024 | Media advisory | Presidency event: Informal meeting of environment ministers, Budapest, 11-12 July 2024 On 11 and 12 July 2024, an informal meeting of environment ministers will take place in Budapest, Hungary. It will be chaired by Anikó Raisz, Hungarian Minister of Environment.   On the first day of the meeting, ministers will exchange views on the road to COP29 and on resilient water management. During working lunch, they will focus on competitiveness of circular economy.   The second day of the meeting will be devoted to transboundary pollution (water and air) and to EIB financing on environment, climate action and circular economy.   A press conference will take place on 12 July at 15.00. For more information and to register, click here. ­ PRESS MATERIAL Monday 8 July 2024 ­ ­ • Council of the EU ­ 08/07/2024 | Media advisory | Presidency event: Informal meeting of energy ministers, Budapest, 15-16 July 2024 On 15 and 16 July 2024, an informal meeting of energy ministers will take place in Budapest, Hungary. It will be chaired by Csaba Lantos, Hungarian Minister of Energy.   Ministers will discuss the role of geothermal energy in the European energy mix and the implementation of the 2030 energy policy framework, including the role of the national energy and climate plans.   They will also exchange views on a resilient, flexible and integrated electricity system as the key to decarbonising the economy. During working lunch, ministers will focus on the contribution of the energy sector to the new competitiveness deal.   A press conference will take place on 16 July at 17.50. These briefings will be "off the record" and will be given in a hybrid format: EU accredited journalists will be able to participate and ask questions either remotely or in person at the Europa building press room.
