President Obama has always believed that sports have the power to bring people together, and as we prepare to bring that belief to life at the Programs & Athletic Center, we want to know how the power of sports has affected
this community, too.
Please, take a moment to tell us the impact sports have had on your life or your community. Here in Chicago, we’re inspired by the dozens of organizations that are using sports to help young people reach their full potential.
With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance, Black Girls Jump is getting girls involved in double dutch jump roping to increase physical activity and build skills like teamwork and perseverance, and Girls in the Game is helping girls find their voice through sports and leadership programs. Southside Wolfpack Football is giving youth a safe haven from violence while teaching them good sportsmanship.
Organizations like these prove that sports are about so much more than winning or losing–they can empower the next generation to achieve great things and help them find a safe and healthy path forward.
We’re gathering stories about the power of sports and want to include yours, too.
